I think that sucks and leaves room for teams to try and fix results and control who goes though.
They SHOULD go to 12 groups of 4 teams; with the Top 2 still advancing from each Group + the Top 8 third place finishers advancing (weighted somehow, of course).
That should only increase the tournament slightly. with teams only having to play one extra game (potentially).
Knockout round would start at 32 instead of 16.The AssmanComment
