In this article, it describes words of hate by students at this event. I think that I heard that someone said "Build the wall" and it offended some of the people at the event. In the article, it describes it as "words of hate".

These are the exact words from the article.

“While the intent may not have been malicious, this incident has certainly impacted our chapter,” the statement continued. “The hateful actions paired with the complacency of those attending this event is unacceptable.”

I guess my question is how can the words not have been malicious but they still are hateful? It sounds like an over reaction to me.

Its sounds like an overreaction? It's a massive overreaction. Personally I'm disappointed in the Kappa response but that's today's culture.

Just curious, if I'm offended and it causes severe trauma in my family if I hear anything related to Socialist activities, can we mandate that the guilty libs go to conservative sensitivity training?

The release does not go into details surrounding the incident, but alleges that during Kappa Kappa Gamma’s flag football event this weekend, a “specific member” of an organization in the Interfraternity Council made a derogatory statement, “which directly affected [their] brothers.”

“I was not there but what I have been told was said was ‘link arms and build a wall,’” Nancy Loosle, assistant dean of students, told The Sunflower in an email Monday afternoon.

If that is the exact quote, and was in the context of a flag football game, it is a huge overreaction. Even if it was said in another context, it would have to have been an obviously tense moment where race was an obvious element.

That's where the whole thing fell apart for me. If there is doubt as to the intent, it's not definitely hateful.
