If we stay in the Marlins organization, we could always do what we did when we were affiliated with the Expos and just flip the Marlins M logo upside down to form a W. It almost has a Wichita Wings feel to it. It would almost work out as a logo for Aeros should that name be chosen again. I''m guessing probably not though since it seems like minor league teams exclusively have bizarre names/mascots.

I doubt most of us could handle those tropical Miami colors though. We're a bit too grunge for that kind of festiveness.

I like Sodbusters, but there’s a college summer league club up in Nebraska by that moniker. Not sure if someone else using the name that far down the pecking order really matters though.

The Wheat Heads is what we should use. It plays of the Wheat Shockers and allows for the design just adding a grain of Wheat on the end of the swoop

I would hazard a guess that Dreamliners would be a no go since (I would sure assume) it is Boeing’s intellectual property. A trademark or whatever it is in that context.

EDIT: It is the Boeing Dreamlifter, not Dreamliner. Derp.

SHOCKvalue - dreamlifter is the giant 747 that carries parts for the dreamliner. Both are planes made by Boeing. Agreed that you're unlikely to get the green light for either name without a sponsorship from Boeing.

Bob Lutz has been on the warpath against the team name having anything to do with aircraft or the aircraft industry. (Not that he or any of us have any say anyway.)

Good thing that is not like the sole thing this town is known for, and the most common source of employment for its citizens, or anything like that.

Shouldn't that be the Wichita KochFighters then?

I know the current fad is outlandishly stoopid team names, like the Trash Pandas or the IronPigs or the Yard Goats, but I really hope Wichita avoids doing that. In fact, I hope the fad dies a miserable death all over the country sooner rather than later.

The new article mentions 6500-7000 fixed seats, 15-18 suites, and common space for an additional 3000-3500 people. All for $75M in total ($6M of the $81M total is for the pedestrian bridge across the Arkansas.)

In Omaha, when Rosenblatt was coming down and TD Ameritrade was going up for the CWS, a suburb of Omaha landed the homeless AAA Omaha club with a new ballpark that has 6434 fixed seats, 15 suites, and common area for another 2500-ish - so basically the low side of what is possible here in Wichita. That ballpark cost roughly $40M in today's dollars, so needless to say I'm really curious what a budget nearly twice as large is getting us. I mean the new Omaha area park is out in BFE in a cornfield, so no demo and lower infrastructure costs, but sheesh... what are we spending the extra $35M on?

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to hear big dollar budget numbers being thrown around, but the field we're talking about building isn't that big. The outfield stuff they're thinking of must be elaborate, because looking at the scale of the Omaha club's new park isn't that visually impressive.
