  • Women's World Cup

I know, I know.....it's soccer and it's women so most aren't going to even give it a chance.

But if you missed today's game against Brazil, you missed as great a sports story and event as you likely ever will see.

Watching a United States team overcome something like that just makes you feel good inside.

I'll remember that game as long as I live.

U-S-A!!!!!

Watched all the scoring plays on ESPN3. The game tying score by Abby Wambach was about as good a soccer play as you will ever see. Megan Rapinoe set up Wambach with a perfect left-footed cross from 30-yards away that just cleared the outstretched hands of the Brazil goalkeeper and Wambach slammed the header home. The goal was scored in the 122nd minute of the match, 2 minutes into 3 minutes of stoppage time at the end of a 30 minute overtime.

Great game, even if it's just Women's Soccer it was epic. Also Hope Solo is hot and the best goalkeeper in the world.

I just watched the game. As a former sweeper (I was partial to the Brazilian defense). I have to say the game belongs, ultimately, to the keeper – Hope Solo. Marvelous cross and finish to equalize – but Solo played a solid game and she became the difference (but she won’t get the recognition).

Most of the match was sloppy, on both sides; Solo’s play – between the pipes – was exceptional. Good on her. Not only did I see athletic talent, not only did I see a mind that yearned to exploit that talent – I witnessed a keeper who could think on her own and pick her spots.

She wanted to win; and, within her power, gave her team the best chance to do so. That, whether she realizes it or not, was her gift.

I sure wouldn't kick her out of my bed for eating crackers.

What are you talking about? U.S. women's soccer has always been good, including two World Cup championships (out of 5 played before this year's and never a worse finish than 3rd). The U.S. may have been behind the curve on the men's side compared to the world, but has been ahead of the curve on the women's side.
