After helping Drake set a record for fewest points in a half, perhaps we have done the same thing for Creighton. Unfortunately, we are shooting 24% (Creighton, 26%), and we are not ahead by twenty at the half this time.

Shocks just miss a huge opportunity. Lose to Creighton 50-48 in Overtime.
Shocks tied the game at 48 on a drive to the hoop by Jessica Diamond. A foul was called on Morgan with 4 seconds remaining and Creighton made both free throws for the 50-48 lead. Haleigh missed her 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Shocks did not shoot the ball well at all but they lost in Omaha last year by 40. Actually one of their better road swings in a long time with a win at Drake and tonight's OT loss in Omaha.
Just can't quite get over the hump.

As bad as the Shocks shot 31% from the field this is the type of game where their poor free throw shooting can be critical. The were 8-14 during regulation 57% and that was on a night where their worst FT shooter, Michelle Price, went 2 for 2 from the line.
One more free throw and they win a huge road game in regulation despite poor FG shooting, 24 turnovers and poor decisions.

We had no reason to expect to come within twenty points of Creighton.
Yet despite shooting 31% and committing twenty-four TOs, we almost beat them at their place - and in front of their largest crowd ever!
Losing to Illinois State or Drake would have been choking away a game. When your largest lead is four points, you cannot choke away a lead.
I would have loved to win this one, but I cannot find it in me to whine about it when we did not.

'Moose, I agree that the loss to Creighton was not the kind that should make you drop interest in the program out of disgust (alhough we have had a number of other performances that might have done the trick).
However, I think it was a disappointing loss in the same way the Shocker Men's 4 losses this year have been disappointing in that it was a great opporunity that we failed to capitalize on. I suppose the same thing could be said of the loss to Arizona in the season opener.
Based on how we have played on the road over the last 7 years a win over Drake followed by an OT loss to Creighton is a big improvement. Still, the win over Creighton was there for the taking and we just couldn't quite git 'er done.
I hope the day comes when we will Git 'Er Done more often than not and hopefully the opportunities for doing so will also multiply.

Somehow, I keep going back to two years ago when players complained about HCJA and even tho that has been swept under the rug, one has to wonder why we hear the same excuses every week, but things don't really change. Can this woman recruit but not coach? Does treating your players like they are your kid sister work in the long run? I don't know, but I do know our total sports program is too good to continue for women's basketball to be terrible year after year."Two dribbles and a ham sandwich" ~ Gregg Marshall

I'm willing to give Jody through next year before I start forming any hard and fast judgements on our talent level and quality of coaching. That's pretty much been my timetable all along. However, I will admit that the team's performance this year has been below my expectations so far.

NOTES ON WSU IN THE MVC
Recent history has not been kind to Wichita State in Missouri Valley Conference competition. The Shockers have not finished higher than fifth since the 1999-2000 campaign and have only placed higher than fifth five times since joining the then-Gateway Conference in 1983-84. WSU has averaged a 7.75 finish over the last eight years, with a peak of 5th in 2005-06, a sixth place finish last year, two seventh place finishes, three ninth place, and one 10th. Wichita State has never reached higher than a tie for second, which came in the 1999-2000 season when WSU went 14-4. The Shockers have finished above .500 in conference play six times in school history but have not done so since that 14-4 year in '99-'00. In the decade prior to this season, WSU had a 60-120 (.333) record in MVC play, with last year's 8-10, 6th place finish the program's best since 2005-06.
I hope Jody is the one that can turn this around, but then I said the same thing aboug Jane. Jane was unable to get it done here. The jury is still out on Jody.
Lambo has proved that you can be successful in women's sports at WSU. Coach Rainbolt has also done very well with our women's track and CC teams.

Some keys to Lambo's success at WSU would include: Maize, Bishop Carroll, Augusta, Newton, Valley Center, Andover, Kapaun, McPherson, Goddard..........names which you don't find on the WBB roster which could impact both on the playing floor and in the stands.
