saw in the paper today that Kelsey is done for the year with a bad back. don't know if she can apply for medical redshirt or not.

I heard Kelsey has a stress fracture in the lower back. Should be able to apply for a medical hardship. She may have come back too soon from ACL, MCL, Misiscus surgery on her knee in March. If she is fully healed and can play like the player Jody signed before injury, she will really help the team.

I'm not sure whether Kelsey will be able to apply for a medical redshirt or not. I'm not at all sure about the rules, but I thought that to qualify for a medical redshirt a player could not participate in more than 20% of their team's games.

Kelsey has played in 9 games this year which willl exceed that 20% limit.

Now if they can base that on % of minutes played then she will end up playing only about 6% of total minutes.

It's 30% of the games according to NCAA rules. Hopefully she'll qualify.

I believe 20% to be correct, but it doesn't hurt to apply given the limited role played in those games.

Can't hurt. All they can say is no. Not sure how hard and fast the 20% rule is or they can consider the fact that her playing time was relatively insignificant and grant a waiver anyway. However, I'm not holding my breath.
