  • Shocks @ Bradley and @ UNI

Shocks still seem to be searching for answers. Every now and then they show glimpses that they can be a good team, at other times we play so ugly it is almost unwatchable.

There were some good signs against SIU, but then that was against a weak SIU team.

Jessica seems to be coming out her funk which is badly needed and Jazimen, Chynna and Michelle are starting to show a little life. We need Heather and Alicia to show they are getting it (ala Joe Ragland and Ben Smith).

The road has not been kind to the Shocks in recent years. The Shocks are 9-74 in true road games over the past 7 years including a 7-56 record in MVC road games. Not exactly a performance to be proud of.

The Bradley game probably give us our best shot on this road trip although the Shocks will be the clear underdog in both games.

Winning both of these games would re-energize the Shocks season and make-up for the home loss to Evansville. Still based on our recent history on the road that does not seem likely to happen, but we will see.

Shocks down 37-28 at the half in Peoria. They had to rally late to cut a 15 point lead to single digits.

They were only down by 3 with about 5 minutes remaining in the half when Bradley went on a 15-3 run to build their lead to 15.

Doesn't sound like the Shocks are playing very well. Poor shooting, too many turnovers and poor defense (Bradley was shooting about 60%).

Big problem for Shocks is Haleigh's inability to stay on the floor. She picked up 2 fouls in the first 2:15 of the game and went to the bench. Jody put her back in with about 5:30 remaining in the half. Haleigh did contribute a 3-point play but also pick up her 3rd foul within a minute of being reinserted. This just happens way too much with Haleigh.

However, all of that and the Shocks are not out of the game, although they need to follow-up on the mini-run at the end of the half to have a chance.

Bradley wins 68-49. This despite Bradley turning the ball over 28 times.

The door was open for the Shocks to get back into the game in the first part of the 2nd half as the pulled to within 4 early on, but they simply could not score in the 2nd half putting up a measly 21 points on top of a weak offensive 1st half.

      Not good.

      :(

29.7% shooting for the game with 4-17 (23.5%) three-balls and 7-14 FTs (with Michelle 0-4).

7-33 (21.2%) from the field in the second half. UNI pulled away late to defeat MSU 80-69 at home tonight. Saturday could get ugly if the Shocks can't find some makers.

Shocks fall at UNI 59-49 in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score indicates.

Shocks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead but UNI went on a 30-5 run to take a 32-12 lead with a couple of minutes left in the 1st half and the game was pretty much over at that point.

Shocks actually put a couple of runs together in the last couple of minutes of each half (8-2 in the 1st half and 10-0 at the end of the game) otherwise they don't score 40 in this game.

On the positive side holding UNI to 59 points at home was a pretty decent effort. (UNI was up 57-33 with 10 minutes remaining and only scored 2 points in the last 10 minutes - they still lead 59-39 with about 2:30 left in the game). Kind of a weird game.

Very uninspired effort. Guards looked at the post, but didn't pass it in. Got burned constantly on cuts to the hoop. They should run clears for Haleigh. She could score 20 per game easily. Jaz can dominate inside, get it to her. I suppose if all 12 players were healthy it would be a different story. It's not fun to watch; and I watched it on the UNI web.
