  • Shocks 67 - Savannah State 41

Very well balanced attack by the Lady Shocks leads to an easy win over Savannah State as was probably expected.

Very good balance by the Shocks as the Shocks had 3 players with 10 points and 3 players with 9 points.

Shocks did a lot of good things today, but also showed they have a lot of thngs they can improve upon.

The best individual performance probably belonged to Wichita Kapuan-Mt. Carmel grad, sophomore Darice Fountaine who was pretty much the only offense Savannah State had with 25 points.

Not sure if the Shocks recruited Darice and I think they said her uncle was the President of Savannah State so perhaps we never had a shot, but she sure would look good in a Shocker uni, especially paired up with Haleigh Lankster.

Shocks will get a much better measure of where they are next Tuesday when UC-Davis comes to Koch Arena. UC-Davis has an RPI of 44 or so and is ranked 8th or there abouts among mid-majors.

BTW, the Shocks got off to a horrible start turning the ball over in 4 of their 1st 7 possessions and trailed 7-0 after 4 minutes. They were really out of sync to say the least.

Over the last 36 minutes of the game the Shocks only made 9 turnovers and outscored SSU (Darice Fountaine) 67 - 34.

Apparently, the Shocks did recruit Darice Fountaine but Uncle Earl won out.

Fountaine was recruited to play for Wichita State out of high school but instead chose Savannah State, where her uncle, Dr. Earl Yarbrough, is the president.

We might want to keep this in mind when Dr. Beggs retires. ;-)
