Shocks notch their first home victory of the year with what might be best described as an uneven performance.
They almost pulled another Arizona as they lead by 14 at the 7:00 minute mark, allowed GMU to pull within 3 at the 1:00 minute mark before Jessie D hit 5 of 6 free throws to seal the deal.
Haleigh in foul trouble early again and only played 3 minutes in the 1st half. However, she did a much better job staying clean in the 2nd half and played 18 minutes which was very key as we need her on the floor.
Morgan Boyd with a very nice offensive game scoring 16 points on only 8 shots.
Shocks were very good in transition off of their defense especially in the 1st part of the 2nd half.
George Mason was pretty athletic which showed up mostly in the rebounding as the won that stat 45-37. Shocks also struggled to get good looks form the perimeter as they hit only 3-13 from behind the arc.
GMU also played outstanding free throw defense holding the Shocks to 57% on 20 of 35 shooting. Shocks still turning the ball over too much.
At this point I feel like I may have overvalued this team a little. They have a lot of things to work on. However, it is very early yet.
Giving up the late leads at home is a little troubling, and may continue if we don't improve our free throw shooting and take better care of the ball.
Attendance reported at 1,787. Probably about 1,000 in actual attendance. Shocks handed out a bunch of free tickets at the UNI Volleyball match on Friday but it appears the great majority of those went unused.
