  • Supporting Women's Basketball

It is about time that this community gets out and supports this women's basketball team. They are extremely athletic and fun to watch. Let's get 5000 for Saturdays game against George Mason.

I like the enthusiasm. And I hope Jody can get us there. If they produce, and do so consistently the attendance will be there. As for Saturday, I'll be out of town.

The attendance for the arizona game looked to be pretty good. Were alot of those tickets comp or are there that many people that have bought tickets? If they can build off of that they will have a good start and having nice crowds.

I'm one of the biggest supporters of Shocker WBB on this board.
However, it will take a good while (if ever) for that to happen. A more realistic goal, I believe is for the WBB program to build their attendance to the level of the VB progam of about 2,500 per game.

If we are able to have some long-term success with consistent post-season appearances perhaps it will gradually grow from there.

My sense is that a good portion of the Shocker Fan Base has to max-out their financial resources in support of Men's Basketball (which includes mandatory SASO contributions). Also a lot of fans can not or will not make the time commitment to attend both the men's and women's games.

We drew 4,000 for Arizona but they had to flood the market with freebies to make that happen.

I would love to see the Lady Shocks drawing 5K per game but I don't expect that anytime soon. The Shocks will be doing pretty good if they draw 2,000 for George Mason game. (Unless they flood the market with freebies again).

One of the ushers told me they sent out 9,000 freebies for the Arizona game.

Unfortunately, a lot of them were not received until a day or two after the game. A lot of freebies were received in the mail on the day of the game. Pretty short notice.

My guess is that they were not selling many tickets in advance to the Arizona game despite a relatively heavy marketing effort and the mailing of the freebies was a last second decision. Obviously, the execution left something to be desired.

I'll admit my gf got free tix thru where she works. We'll probably go to a few more, but with other my commitments to officiating, work, family and mens basketball there's only so much I can do.

I do believe continued success will bring a larger attendance than what VB gets and averaging 5-6k wouldn't be out of line. Until that happens, shooting for about 2k right now would be a good thing. I've gone to games the past few years where there were probably 600 or so there. So lets take steps towards better attendance and not expect giant leaps. Winning will take care of the rest

I took a group of five to the Arizona game.

My 2 season tickets plus 3 freebies. I had another 3 freebies that were not used. I tried hard to give them away, but time was not on my side.

Here are the WBB attendance figures for the 2009-10 season:

Shocks were 74th with an average of 1,987. However, that includes the school field trip game which is essentially a freebie that drew 9,196 "fans" representing 27% of the season's total attendance.

Not saying that isn't a good promotion but is does distort our "real" attendance numbers quite a bit. Back that game out and we fall to 1,536 average attendance which would put the Shocks at #94. Actual butts in the seats was significantly less than that.

Missouri state was 31st at 3,518 in average attendance. I think that would be a good long-term goal for the Shocks. MSU has a much, much stronger tradition in WBB basketball then the Shocks do. We need to start building our own tradition of quality basketball and then we can begin to expect our attendance to move up.

I recieved an e-mail from Darron Boatright (Sr. Associate AD) today regarding the ticket promotion snafu for the Arizona game. Apparently they received a lot of calls and e-mails regarding the late delivery of tickets.

IF you still have any unused tickets those can be redeemed at the box office in Koch Arena at any remaining 2010-11 home women’s game of your choice.

Now I have to see if I still have my unused tickets.
