  • 2010-11 WBB Prediction Contest

OK, time for your predictions. I must say the team's performance in their exhibition game is making this more difficult, but I'm willing to bet HCJA and the team will take the necessary steps to improve their defense and rebounding.

If you want to participate enter your predictions for the following:

    Non-Conference Record
    MVC Regular Season Record
Post Season Tournamanet (NCAA, WNIT, WBI or None)
Tie-Breaker: MVC Road Game Point Differential

Entry deadline is 7:00 pm Friday, November 12th.

    I'll go with the following:

    Non-Con: 8-3
    MVC: 12-6
    Overall: 20-9
    Post-Season: WNIT
    MVC Road Differential: -3.3

    Non-Con: 8-3
    MVC: 13-5
    Overall: 21-8
    Post-season: NCAA (auto-bid)

'72, forgive my poor memory, but is the road difference a per game average, or a total net point differential?

I remember predicting some in the 80s a couple of years ago and being heckled. I don't want a repeat of that. :D

It is the net per game average for the 9 MVC road games.

One reason I like to focus on this stat is that we were so bad on the road during Jane Albright's tenure that I think this stat provides some insight into how much the team is improving. The number has been getting better under Jody. To successful in the MVC you need to win a fair share of your road games.

No, I was waiting for you to correct your date. November 8th, at least on my calendar, was yesterday.

I guess you meant Friday, November 12th.

Duh! My bad. You are correct. I guess I should turn my calendar from October to November.

                  Thanks.

Only 3 participants so far. OK, time to sweeten the pot.

I will provide this year's winner two tickets to either a Shocker Volleyball match or Ladies Basketball game of your choice during the 2011-2012 season.

Not very much participation in this year's contest but here are the participant's and their predictions:

                      1972Shocker: 8-3/12-6/20-9/WNIT/-3.3

                      The Mad Hatter: 8-3/13-5/21-8/NCAA/-6.0

                      SubGod22: 7-4/10-8/17-12/WBI/-10.2

At least we have a little disparity of opinion.

I'll put in a late entry. (I would have predicted a loss to Arizona beforehand.)

                        Non-con: 9-2
                        MVC: 11-7
                        Overall: 20-9
                        Post-season: WNIT
                        Road pt diff: -5.5

Most fans probably would have predicted a loss to Arizona so let's extend the cutoff date and time for entries to:

Tuesday, November 16th at 7:00 pm. (Subject to verification by my auditor 1979Shocker).

                          The more the merrier.

                            Prediction Contest Update:

                            The Mad Hatter: 8-3/13-5/21-8/NCAA/-6.0

                            RoyalShock: 9-2/11-7/20-9/WNIT/-5.5

                            1972Shocker: 8-3/12-6/20-9/WNIT/-3.3

                            SubGod22: 7-4/10-8/17-12/WBI/-10.2

The Shocks complete the non-conference portion of their schedule at a disappointing 6-5 including 2 blowout losses in their last 3 games. One at home and one on the road.

As with the Shocker men the Shocks are looking for steady play at the point guard position. We are not getting a whole lot of production from our post players. Clearly they are not meshing together was well as I had hoped they would.

I thought they might surprise to the upside from their preseason pick at the #5 spot in the MVC. Not so sure about that now, although the MVC does appears to be very average this year. At this point I would not be surprised to see them fall a notch. Drake seems to be playing well above their pick as the #7 finisher.

Sub appears to be in prime position to win this year's contest although things can change with the full conference season remaining. I'll update again at the mid-point of the conference season.

                              Prediction Contest Update:

                              The Mad Hatter: 8-3/13-5/21-8/NCAA/-6.0

                              RoyalShock: 9-2/11-7/20-9/WNIT/-5.5

                              1972Shocker: 8-3/12-6/20-9/WNIT/-3.3

                              SubGod22: 7-4/10-8/17-12/WBI/-10.2

We reach the halfway point of the conference season with the Shocks at 10-10 overall (6-5 OOC and 4-5 MVC).

Sub looks like he has this one pretty much in the bag.

At this point the Shocks are alone in 6th place. A reasonable goal for them would be to finish their league season at 9-9 and perhaps move past Indiana State into 5th place. At the very least they need to hold on to 6th to stay out of the play-in round of the MVC Tournament.
