Some positives and some negatives in the Lady Shocks only exhibition game today.
The Shocks defensive effort and rebounding left a lot to be desired. HCJA rated her teams defense and rebounding performance as poor in her post game remarks.
The Shocks showed no ability to keep their opponent in front of them and the help defense wasn't particularly good either leading to a lot of fouls.
The Shocks were outrebounded 37-32 by an undersized and not terribly athletic UCA team. The Shocks seemed to have little interest in screening their opponents off the boards.
Offensviely Heather Robben was outstanding and the Shocks shot the ball very well from the perimeter with Heather, Morgan, Alicia and Haliegh all showing the ability to knock down the 3-ball.
Really did not get a whole lot from our front court although I thought freshman Kelsey Jacobs played well in her Shocker debut.
Feshman guards Breanna Dawkins and Krystle Henderson did not suit up. I am not sure what the story was with those two players.
Overall, I was somewhat disappointed with the play of the Shocks. They will need to step it up several notches with their defense and rebounding if they want are going to have a good year. We may miss Sheena Johnson more than I had hoped would be the case.
My optimism about this team is shaken a little bit after today's performance, but I hope this just proves to be a good learning experience.
