What a rascally coach they have over there at Butler.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

FM, for what it is worth, I like to coach from the bleachers just like anyone else and I have always complained about "the ones that got away". Although I know a few people (and players) who give me an inside scoop every now and then, that doesn't mean I know what these coaches are thinking when they pass on certain players. There could be personal issues, grade problems, or any number of things that weigh in.
I just have the mentality that every good player should be a Shocker!

Quick pitch...that is the best comment I have heard on this site ever. There are always two sides to every story on why an athlete comes to WSU or not, why they were recruited or not recruited. Fans just need to realize that it isn't always as simple as asking a kid to come. There's no telling how a 16-18 year old thinks today. We all want the best for these programs and I believe that all the coaches are trying to do this. It is always funny to read or listen to what people "seem to know" what is going on behind the program. But, unless they hear it straight from the head coach...it isn't the truth.

Yes, all of the above plus sometimes the roster is already filled with those who can play the position(s) of the potential recruit. Some recruits are athletic enough and skilled enough to move from infield to outfield (less likely in the opposite direction) so that a coach is not hamstrung by this issue, but not all.

I understand. Our differences lie in the possibility that you are an English/Performing Arts major, so I would claim that you evaluate with your heart. I am a Math/Science major, so I always want to reply, "Prove that (whatever the particular assertion might be)." These characterizations are probably oversimplified (and may not be accurate at all), but I think they are useful in understanding our conversations.

Just like everyone here, I want a softball program that is a perennial contender in the Valley. I don't care if the players come from across Sedgwick and Butler counties, from across Kansas or from across the entire country. Unlike some, I think it will take players from all over the region to achieve that goal, but I could be "proven" wrong about that.

I'm looking forward to the spring to see what the coaches can do with this group of ladies - and what they can do for themselves.

The more relevant question is are there any of our players that could play for Butler?

WOW...it is amazing...don't see anyone saying any negative things after this weekend. Only can comment on losses and not wins. I know it was wins against Cowley and Newman that should have been wins, but can't make positive comments on here?

Team looked a lot better. Even one inning where there was back to back to back homeruns.

I have been looking for the results but could not find anything. I suspect that is why there have been no comments. Good to see the Ladies snap back in a positive fashion.

You don't happen to have links to the boxscores do you?

                      What were the final scores?

I don't know why they don't post results on the website...can't be the excuse of fall ball because the baseball team posts theirs. Might be because there isn't a "true" box score because I notice they sub however they want. Shocks beat Newman 11-2 and Cowley 8-0. Much better performance last weekend...team bounced back well. Could have been bad since the Shocks have lost to Cowley the last two years.

I haven't made any comments one way or the other (I also don't follow softball that close), but just think about it. It is fall ball and look at who is being played. If the program is headed in the right direction, there is nothing to get very excited about if they win. Sure, it would be good for anyone who witnessed the games to make a couple of nice comments.

However, what's going to get noticed this time of year is not doing what should be expected. Even then, most of the comments dealt with who and where should be considered to find good recruits.

Sorry , I was so ticked off with them getting beat by Butler that I chose to go to a football game instead of coming to see Newman and Cowley. So I was not able to comment on the games.
However, I did make the comment on my original post that I thought Pooch would light a fire under them and I expected a better outing this time. Glad that we finished on a positive note.

Thanks for the scores. Obviously a much better performance. I am assuming you were at the games. Did anything in particular stand out to you.

I can understand not posting the results. It might even be contrary to NCAA rules to do so.

What I would like to see this season though is that the Shcoks maintain their stats online during the season. For some reason they dropped those off last year.

Better performance? Competition was terrible. Yes we won and I am glad to see that. The question is though if you were a WSU recruit would you be tickled to read that your potential destination lost a double-header to a junior college? Doesn't sell the program no matter how you look at it. We went out on good note but the winter will be long knowing we lost to Juco. Butler girls can hold their heads high when they come into town now.
