  • MVC Track & Field Championships

SIU dominated the throwing events picking up 50 points in the Hammer (28) and Javelin (22) and added a 2nd place finish in the 10,000 meter run.

Shockers picked up all 18 of their Day 1 points in the 10,000 meter run with Tonya Nero setting a new MVC record with a 35:37.39 breaking the previous record set in 2004 by 7.5 seconds.

Leah Thompson (36:03.27) finished 4th and Irene Kosgei (36:49.98) finished 6th picking up 8 points for the Shocks.

Freshman Tanya Friesen is in 3rd place after 4 events of the Heptathlon.

Realistically the women will probably finish 2nd unless some crazy things happen on the final day. SIU has a great team (ranked top 20 NCAA) and may just have a little too much firepower. No one else should threaten their title chances besides the Shockers. Lots of great Track and Field in store for the final day!

        What happened to Brittany Hemphill?

She was a solid sprinter as a freshman last season, and doesn't appear to be on the roster this season.

        Anyone know?

Shocks can't overcome an excellent Saluki team, but do finish 2nd.

ISU finished a surprising 3rd, making the all sports trophy extremely tight right now.
