  • Lady Shocks v Oklahoma State

The Shocks play a single game against the Cowgirls at 5pm on Tuesday. Okie State is currently ranked #18 and has a record of 26-7.

Opponents of interest and the scores are Tulsa (2-6), Rutgers (8-3, 2-0) and UNI (8-0 in 5, 7-5). Oklahoma State was a preseason pick for seventh of the ten teams playing softball in the Big 12.

This game is followed on Wednesday by the single game of the conference series with Missouri State.

Next 3 Weeks will dictate the season? Hopefully in a positive manner.

        Oklahoma State 2-0 Shocks

        Mostly for completeness.

It appears that the Shocks got some useful, but not dominating, innings from Breezy. As has been the case so often this year, the offense was a no-show.

Breezy (4.1 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER) and Kasha (2.2 IP, 0 hits, 0 ER) vs OSU is actually pretty solid.

But as 'moose noted the offense was a non-factor getting only 3 htis (2 by Lindsie Mitts) and failing to score.

Still that kind of effort in the circle will win you some games in the MVC.

Is Poochie on the hot seat yet?

My guess is no. Mike is in his 5th year making him the second longest tenured coach in softball history behind Jim Maynard's 11 years.

Mike is second in career wins with 126 wins to Maynard's 313.

Mike is second in winning % at 0.531 to Tim Walton's .658 in his 3 years. The only 2 of our 11 coaches with a career winning % above 0.500

We are without a doubt trending in the wrong direction. Here are the win-loss records of Mike's teams:

              2006: 35-23 (.603)
              2007: 37-28 (.569)
              2008: 33-28 (.541)
              2009: 21-32 (.396)
              2010: 09-14 (.391)

This should at least be enough for ADES to put Pooch on notice that the downtrend needs to stop and start back the other way in the next couple of years.

If softball was a big revenue Sport no doubt Mike would be on his way out. However, since that's not the case I suspect he will get a couple more years.
