  • Lady Shocks at QTI Invitational (Baylor)

The Shocks head to Waco to play in the QTI Invitational hosted by #25 Baylor. Other teams in the tournament are Central Arkansas, Tulsa, UT-Arlington, and UTEP.

Both Central Arkansas and UT-Arlington are members of the Southland Conference. UCA is a preseason pick for eighth and Tulsa for sixth in the eleven-team conference and their current records are 3-2 and 4-1, respectively.

Tulsa and UTEP (whoa, they have a Rifle team!) are members of Conference USA and both are 2-3 on the year.

The Shock play Tulsa and Baylor on Friday, UCA and UT-Arlington on Saturday, and UTEP on Sunday.

My prediction, we lose the first 2 games and then win the next 3. Going 3 and 2 this weekend will be a success.

          Katie Armagost starting against Tulsa.

Shocks fail to score in top of the 1st and stranded runners at 2nd and 3rd.

Home run, 1-1 top of 4

Stupid baserunning by WSU gets Tulsa out of the fourth with 1 out and runners on 1-3 Shocks get caught in double steal at home.

Heather Gerritse gets the Shocks first big fly of the year to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 4th.

Holly Eckert with a clutch 2-out, 2-run pinch hit single in the top of the 6th to put the Shocks up 5-1.

How is the pitching? Is it still Katie?

Katie has scattered 6 singles over 5.2 innings and has given up 1 unearned run. Gametracker seems to be stuck at that point.

A second consecutive effective outing where Katie has kept the ball in the park.

                      :good: :goshocks:

Katie gave up a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 6th to make it 5-3.

Katie is replaced by Jamie Hull in the 7th. Jamie gives up a 2-run homer in the 7th and a 3-run homer in the 8th.

Shocks lose 8-5. We did this way too often last year and it appears we have not resolved those issues.

                            :(

I take full responsibility for this loss by mentioning that Katie had done a good job in keeping the ball in the park.
