  • Creighton 58 - Shocks 48

Shocks with a pretty good effort in holding a good Creighton team to 58 points which at home should give you a good shot at winning.

Unfortunately, the Shocks struggled mightily all afternoon with their half-court offense and were rarely afforded an opportunity to run. They consistently found themselves forcing or rushing shots as the shot clock wound down and had several shot clock violations.

Still they had an oppurtunity after pulling to within 7 at 49-42 with 8:44 remaining in the game. Creighton did not score on its next six or seven possessions. Unfortunately, the Shocks also failed to score during that lull by Creighton. They had 2 offensive rebounds by Jaz in that stretch so they had 8 cracks at making it a game. The missed 5 shots and turned the ball over 3 times. Creighton finally hit a trey at about the 3 minute mark to break the scoring drought and pretty much ice the game.

Bottom line is that the Shocks were simply a little overmatched in this game.

I was impressed with the hustle and play of Michelle Price and Jazimen Gordon. I think these two ladies have probably made the most progress with their games so far this year.

OTOH Chynna has hit a wall and is really struggling. Also Haliegh shot seems to have abandoned her for now.

At this point the Shocks are playing to maintain their current 6th place spot in the standings and thus avoid the play-in round.

Thanks to MSU's win over Drake this afternoone the Shocks are alone in 6th -- one game ahead of Drake.

The Shocks and Bulldogs have almost identical schedules remaining.

The Shocks hosts MSU and Drake hosts Creighton (who are currently tied for second at 8-3). Beyond that the Shocks and Bulldogs play the same 6 opponents: Evansville, SIU, UNI, Bradley, ILS and INS.

The only difference is Drake hosts ILS and INS while the Shocks play those two teams on the road.

I think the Shocks will lose to MSU and ILS and I think Drake loses to Creighton and ILS. I think both will hold serve at home against Evansville and SIU. The leaves UNI, Bradley and INS as the key swing games.

All are road games for the Shocks while Drake play UNI and Bradley on the road but gets INS at home.

Slight advantage to Drake by virtue of getting INS at home.

I too am pretty happy with the way the team played in spite of the loss. It was pretty much a dead even game in almost every category, except that CU had more experienced players who were able to knock down some key shots and we had some good looks that we couldn't get to fall.

I actually thought we ran our offense better against CU than we had against Drake, but we had a number of good looks, both inside and out, that just rimmed out.

Michelle did an excellent job defending the pre-season player of the year in the MVC. You can see that she is starting to figure out the defensive technique needed to play at this level and she already had the great footwork and hustle to be a good defender.
