Women's Indoor Track season thread

Thought I'd start a new thread for the season instead of one for each meet.

This week the Lady Shockers go to Nebraska for a 6-team scored meet against the Huskers, K-State, Missouri, Colorado St, and Air Force. Here is a link to the entries: http://www.aspimeetz.com/MeetPartici...antReport.aspx

This will be a much more competitive meet than last week's home meet but the Shockers should still do very well. It looks like on paper Nebraska is a considerable favorite but last year WSU almost beat Nebraska outdoor in a quad meet at Nebraska. That being said a 2nd place finish would probably be a good goal for WSU and beating K-State and Mizzou would be fun! They beat Oklahoma State last week so taking down 3 Big 12 schools in 2 weeks would be a nice way to start the season.

One difference this week for the Shockers will be that they are running on a banked track for the only time this year, hopefully it will yield faster times along with the better competition.

Nebraska's women are currently ranked #11, should be a great challenge for our ladies.

Lady Shockers finish 4th ...

I thought they would do a little better overall but its still early in the season and in these meets many teams don't enter like they will at a conference meet.

Nonetheless some impressive performances ...
--Audacia Moore - another week, another record. The only short sprint record she doesn't own now is the 100m outdoor which is held by her mom by the way. :)
--Looks like Leah Thompson and Tonya Nero will continue the MVC nightmare for everyone else that Desiraye Osburn, Mica Land, and Kellyn Johnson started in the past decade in the distances. 1-2 finish and they weren't even pushed.
--Cassie Craig once again a solid meet, 8.73 hurdles and 12-3 PV.
--Tish Brown tied for first but lost because of a shorter 2nd jump, still a very solid LJ at 19-8.
--800 runners had a good meet, led by Danielle Walker's 2:12.

Next week the team is off except some multi's will go back to Nebraska to compete.

It wasn't as significant a weekend as the men had but there were a couple highlights from a light competitive week.

Freshman Tanya Friesen scored 3348 pts in the pentathlon to lead the Lady Shox. This is a very nice score for the Buhler native in her first multi.

Cassie Craig had another nice vault in Reno, going 12-7.

This weekend the Shox host their final home meet, the WSU Shocker Quad. The main opponent will be Texas-Arlington, come out and see the Shockers!

Those who were in attendance at the Heskett Center saw a great meet and some very good performances by the Lady Shockers.

Team score: WSU 167, UT-Arlington 144, Doane 113, Butler CC 56.

--Audacia Moore just keeps on rolling, breaking her own records every week. This time it was 7.52 in the 60m and 24.40 in the 200m. The 200m mark is a national qualifying mark and puts her in the top-20 in the NCAA. Amazing sophomore!
--The dynamic distance duo of Tonya Nero and Leah Thompson crushed the field in the mile going 4:56 andf 4:59 all alone once again.
--Cassie Craig wins the 60h in 8.63 (2nd in MVC) and goes 2nd in the PV at 13 ft.
--Multi-eventer Tanya Friesen had a good all-around meet going 9.08 in the hurdles for 2nd, 18-7 in the LJ for 2nd, and 5-5 in the HJ for 2nd. Looks like she's shaping up for a great pentathlon in 3 weeks!
--Tish Brown wins the LJ once again at 19-6, and had a BIG foul.

This next weekend will be an important one. The runners will go to Iowa State for the lightning fast 300m track while the field eventers will go to Air Force for a good meet as well.

The MVC race should clear up next week, right now it looks like SIU is the strong favorite as they are also in the top 15 in the NCAA rankings. WSU and Indiana St are along strong with Illinois State.

How good do think Audacia can be before she is done at WSU on a national level.?

I think she has a shot at being all-American. The best sprinters in the world are from the USA (and Jamaica) and almost all of them are products of the NCAA system so being one of the top 8 is quite an accomplishment at the D1 level. She seems to be improving from her freshman indoor season of a year ago nicely, I guess only time will tell.

The Lady Shockers split up this past weekend and had some good results.

The runners (distance and sprints) went to Iowa State, you can watch all the races on http://www.flotrack.org/ ...
--Tonya Nero runs 16:39 in her first 5k of the season with Leah Thompson in 17:02, easily the top 2 times in the MVC. Those girls are gonna do some damage at UNI.
--This is the first meet Audacia Moore hasn't broken records but 7.63 and 24.51 are still solid. She did get beat by Brent from Illinois State in the 60 so that will be quite a showdown in 2 weeks.
--Danielle Walker and Signee Fornshell run 2:13 in the 800 to put them in the top 5 of the MVC. Great improvement from last year for Fornshell.
--4x4 runs 3:49 which is better but not quite up at the top of the MVC.
--DMR runs 11:41 for 2nd with a big anchor run by Nero. Top mark in the MVC this year.

The field eventers went to Air Force Academy ...
--Cassie Craig keeps putting up consistent numbers in the PV (12-6) and hurdles (8.64).
--Amy Hough (12-6) and Hannah Miller (12-0) are making the Shockers look tough again in the vault.
--Courtney Reinke goes 39-8 in the TJ, the freshman ranks #3 in the MVC.
--Megan Rakes throws 43-6 in the SP, her best of the year by far.

This week the team will split up again and go to Nebraska (Friday) and K-State (Saturday). It is the final tune-up before the big MVC in 2 weeks!!!
