  • Big Comeback Win Over Indiana State

The Lady Shocks after looking pretty much lost for the first 25 minutes rallied over the last 15 minutes to erase a 20-point deficit and claim a 65-61 victory over Indiana State.

Indiana State employed a packed in Doug Gottlieb of OSU defense and dared the Shocks to beat them from the outside. They were especially sagging off of Marisah Henderson. Haleigh knocked down a couple of threes in the 1st half but for the most part the Shocks could not solve the INS zone.

Jessica Diamond stepped up big time in the second half and together with Haliegh Lankester (who played a good portion of the Shocks comeback with 4 fouls) and Chynna Turner led the Shocks to a very nice come-from-way-behind victory. Shocks really picked up the D and held INS scoreless over the last 5 minutes of the game and also got their transition game going.

Hopefully, this will give the Ladies a big boost of confidence and positive thinking and carryover into the remainder of the season.

    :good: :goshocks:

Nice win for the Shocks. Restored a little confidence. Found a way to beat a zone defense (which has tended to cause them problems). Moved back to a conference record above .500. Biggest positive in a night with a number of bad plays by the Shocks was just a dogged refusal to give up. Great effort and a very nice result.

You had to be afraid that the losses to CU and Drake (which should be our toughest road trip of the year) would snowball into some losses in games we could win if we were playing well. Early in the game, it sure looked like we were allowing the loses to affect our play, but what a great job fighting it off and getting the win.

While up and down in the game, I thought Chynna really did a good job in the second half of forcing the zone to collapse on her and kicking the ball out to the open shooter.

Also, got to give our defense on Kelsey Luna (particularly Sheena and Haleigh) a lot of credit. We never let her get comfortable and held her to 5 points on 13 shots and forced her into 8 turnovers.

Shocks outscored INS 33-9 over the last 15 minutes of the game led by Jessica with 13 points and Haleigh with 8 and some good board work by Chynna and good team defense.

Jessica started the ball rolling with a 3-pointer and finished her scoring with as pretty a jumper as you will ever see to put the Shocks up 62-61 at the 2:00 minute mark.

Haleigh had some very nice steals on the wing that led to 4 of her points, but Jessica was the real show. Very impressive showing for the Freshman guard.

Jessie was also clearly nursing a bum knee and fought through it to put in the performance she did. It is scary to think how good she is capable of being over her career at WSU.

I thought the 500 or so Shocker faithful in attendance did a nice job getting behind the team once Jessica got going and the Shocks narrowed the lead to 12 points on an 8-point run by Jessica.

Sure would like to see more Shocker fans join us.

If you haven't seen these young ladies play you should come out for Saturday's 2 p.m. game against Illinois State. Understand it is $1.00 day and these ladies diserve to have some support in the stands.
