  • Lady Shocker Track Team opens up Friday @WSU

The 2010 track season gets underway Friday night in the Heskett Center at WSU Friday, here's the full schedule: http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticl...CLID=204846113

They will compete against Oklahoma St, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, Fort Hays, and Emporia St - should be a great meet to kick off the season. The Shockers only have 3 meets and for $2 its about as good of a value as you can find for some fantastic athletes!

What I'm most interested in seeing is:

Audacia Moore - fastest girl in the Valley as a freshman, how much has she improved along with the rest of the great sprint group.

Distance newcomers like Tonya Nero and Leah Thompson - how well will they do on the track after a great first cross country season?

Pole vault - Looks like another strong group in an always entertaining event!

Jumps - Tish Brown is looking good in the sprints and jumps and we have some talented new high jumpers that should give the Shockers a boost we haven't had in a while.

Its a scored meet so hopefully we can put it on those Big 12 and C-USA teams! Go Shox!

Lady Shockers have an impressive meet, winning the season opening WSU Invitational.

    Team Scores:
WSU 162, Tulsa 130, Oral Roberts 81, Oklahoma St 44, Emporia St 44, Fort Hays 32

    Highlights:
--Audacia Moore breaks the 60m school record twice. 7.60 in the prelims and 7.54 in the finals, and ran a nice leg on the 4x4 that took the lead then ended up 2nd.
--Haylie Bolan ran her first races in a couple years (there was a nice article in the Wichita Eagle Friday about her). She was 5th in the 60 (7.79, 7.77 prelim) and 3rd in the 200m (25.61). Looks like she will help Audacia in the sprints this year very well.
--Leah Thompson wins the mile in 4:58.02 with Tonya Nero 3rd in 4:59.86. Great runs getting under 5 minutes considering these girls are more "long distance" runners that will be great 5k and 10k runners this year.
--Cassie Craig looks to be emerging as a new star, she vaulted 13-2 and won the 60m hurdles in 8.82 easily.
--La'Taish Brown had a huge jump of 20-5 in the long jump, she also ran a good 60m, winning the consolation final.

There were also some below average performances but I imagine there always will be this early in the year.

Next week the team travels to Nebraska for the adidas Classic where they will compete against some Big 12 schools as well as Colorado St and Air Force.
