  • Shocks @ Drake

Last year the Shocks suffered their worst loss of the season at UNI losing by 80-48. Two days later they faced a Bradley team in Peoria that had defeated them by 20 earlier in the year in Wichita.

The Shocks responded with a 70-68 upset win to break a long MVC road losing streak.

Granted this is pretty much a totally different roster for the Shocks but it is the same coaching staff and I have feeling that Jody has their full attention at this point.

Drake has 2 Seniors and 2 Juniors (1 of which is a JUCO transfer who doesn't play much). So the experience factor should not be nearly as significant as it was vs Creighton.

However, Rachel Hackbarth, a 6'2" Sophomore post, put up 28 points in Drake's 88-84 win over MSU on Friday. She was 12-14 from the field and 4-5 from the line.

Looks like Drake is somewhat similar to the Shocks in that they are little up and down this year. They lost on the road to UMKC who the Shocks defeated in the Bahamas. That was their season opener so its been a while. A couple of games later they had a nice 78-75 win over Iowa State. More recently they lossed by 19 on the road to Illinois State and followed that up with a 14 point road win over Indiana State.

I'm not expecting a win (although I think they are capable of beating Drake), but I do expect that the Shocks will play much better than they did against Creighton assuming their self-confidence has not been damaged to greatly. Haleigh needs to stay out of foul trouble.

One problem is that Drake is one of the hardest places to win in the Valley, in large part because for some reason they have had a history of getting a lot of favorable officiating in their home gym (and that has been the opinion of people at a number of MVC schools).

Nonetheless, it would be big if WSU could bounce back and win this game.

Shocks fall to Drake by score of 68-54.

During a stretch of about the last 6 minutes of the 1st half and the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half Drake outscored the Shocks 39 - 12.

The Shocks won the other 24 minutes 42 - 29.

Haleigh had a good game (20 points) but fouled out.

Shocks with 25 fouls to 15 for Drake. Drake 24 of 27 from the line vs the Shocks 9 of 13. (See post by TMH above).

So much for Creighton going through the Valley undefeated.

MSU whacked them pretty good (82-67) on the BlueJays home court.

MSU looks to be much improved this year.

It is my understanding that it is extremely hard to play at both Creighton and Drake. Shocks will need to rebound and play well against Indiana State this Thursday. These girls deserve to have some fans in the stands at Charles Koch Arena. :wsu_posters:
