  • Shocks @ Creighton

Shocks open up perhaps the toughest Valley road swing this year as they travel to Omaha for a game tonight vs Creighton followed by a quick turn around Saturday afternoon in Des Moines vs Drake.

Creighton is the strong favorite to win the Valley this year and Drake was picked to finish 3rd.

Both the Shocks and BlueJays are 2-0 in league play, but both of the Shocks wins were at home while the BlueJays won their first two games on the road against arguably better teams than the Shocks played. Furthermore, in the 2 road wins Creighton held both INS and ILS to 44 points.

Inexperience in not an issue for Creighton. They have 4 seniors and 3 juniors on their 10 player roster including last year's defensive POY and the preseason pick for this year's POY Megan Neuvirth.

Shocks will definitely have a tough challenge tonight. A win is highly unlikely. My hope is that the Shocks are reasonably competitive. Staying with 12 of the Lady Jays on the road would be a decent effort IMHO.

Ain't happening tonight for the Shocks. In fact, they are getting embarrassed at the half as CU leads 45-21.

Creighton dominating in all phases of the game. Jessica and Jazimen made a few baskets late in the half, but no one else is doing much.

So far, Shocks proving they are not ready for prime time.

Game is pretty much over. We need to come out and try to at least play a representative 2nd half and regain a little bit of dignity.

    :(

      Final Score 89-48.

Not much to say. Let's see. Oh yea, hey at least they didn't double us up!

      Creighton is apparently pretty solid.

Not really an embarrassment when you consider that the CU women beat the team picked to finish 2nd in the league (Illinois State) by 25 points at Normal Illinois. CU is just that much better than the rest of the league this year especially at home. Would love to see the Shocks cut into the margin but this is really pretty much what was expected.

A young team against a veteran team, first road conference game ... what he said. One could have hoped for a smaller margin, but it was not to be.

I think those are good and valid points you guys make. Although, based on her post-game comments, I'm not sure Jody was so willing to give her team a pass on this one.

If they can snap back and play a decent game against Drake then it will prove to be just one more step-back learning experience in the maturation of this team.

Drake defeated MSU 88-84 last night in a shoot-out in Des Moines.

Again not a game you would expect the Shocks to win. They just need to show some growth vs the Creighton game.

This was one of those games where the Shocks played poorly while the BJ's played very well.

Perhaps the most telling stat of the game was the reboudning. The Shocks were out-rebounded 42-20.

Also CU was 18-21 from the line to the Shocks 5-8.

A passive, inexperienced Shocker team was simply never in the game against an aggressive, experienced Creighton team.

                Creighton

I checked out the Crieghton Roster on their website. 7 of their 10 players are Jrs & Srs.

Yep. 4 Seniors and 3 Juniors (see opening post to this thread.)

They are 7 good seniors and juniors and with only 10 players on the roster CU doesn't really have a bunch of weak reserves they can put in a blowout game to let up on the gas.

Creighton may very well go through the MVC undefeated based on their performance so far.

Still the Shocks should be, and I think they are, better than they showed last night.
