  • WSU Vs SIU - Edwardsville

Holy Mackerel, those 8000 school kids just about pegged the noise meter today and they sustained it for a very long time! The Shocks won by about 10!

Damn near blew a 20+ point lead with 8 minutes left......got down to 5 before an offensive rebound with about 50 seconds left sealed the fate of SIUE.

This is where you really see the inexperience showing through. Too easy for young teams to get complacent with a big lead.

We saw the same thing out of the men last year, but they have learned to maintain big leads much better this season.

On the positive side we have struggled in the past when Lankster is not shooting well (she was 1-11 today although she played well defensively). Today we had 3 other people score in double figures and Dannah had 9 points as well. Good sign that we are learning what to do when our first option is not working. Gordon was one rebound away from a double-double.

Would have been nice to hold the bigger lead but all in all this was still a very positive game.

I think this is what we are going to deal with this year. A lot of inconsistency from game-to-game and within individual games.

We are pretty good in transition and can be good from the perimeter but our inside game and rebounding is definitely a work-in-progress. Jazimen does seem to be taking some positive steps though. If we go cold from the perimeter (like we did over the last 10 minutes of today's game) we can struggle, even against less than stellar competition such as SIU-Edwardsville (and SIU-E was missing their leading scorer today).

At least today there was enough good moments (1st half was very solid) that we overcame our struggles at the end which is an improvement over the Northern Colorado game.

SMU coming up in the Bahamas will be a good test for the Shocks. It will be interesting to see how they can do against a team that would be at or near the top of the MVC if they were in our league.

SMU's leading scorer is 6'2" Christine Elliott out of Wichita South who is averaging 15 PPG and 7 RBG. She would have looked pretty good in Shocker Black & Gold.
