  • Shocks vs South Dakota

Not quite sure what to make of today's game. I think this is what we are in store for this year. Periods in which the upside of this team is apparent and offsetting periods where our inexperience shows.

Biggest negative for me today was that we really dialed down the effort on the defensive end in the second half.

Jessy D was impressive on the offensive side of the ball in the first half with 15 of her 17 points. In the second half she became a defensive liability and accordingly got to watch a good portion of the 2nd half from the bench.

Our inside game is still pretty much non-existant.

Dannah played very little. Not sure why, as SD was packing the defense in pretty tightly.

Haliegh was solid, but her teammates need to make sure she gets more touches and more shots. Huge rebound on Sheena's FT miss late in the game.

Sheena looked pretty good, although her two late FT misses almost gave SD a chance to tie. Fortunately, Haleigh bailed her out.l

Sheena and Haliegh are our best defenders and probably our best all-around players.

Ashley is our best inside defender and rebounder but is not much of a scoring threat.

I think Morgan has some skills but she is a little trigger happy. I think a little more patience would help her a lot. She did come through with some key baskets and FT's late, with one of her baskets off a very good drive and dish from Marisah.

SD is probably not the worst team we will play this year. I think they are in the process of transitioning for D-II to D-I.

Right now though any win is a good win for the Shocks.

BTW, not sure who is in charge of the HVAC at Koch, but it is hard enough to draw fans to the women's games. It doesn't help matters if they are not going to be comfortable. Having a cool breeze on the back of your neck and having to wear your coat the entire game is OK and even expected at a football or baseball game. Could do without it at basketball games.

    over!

      I second the motion!

And a nice game summary, too.
