Shannika Bryant makes it 4 signings. She is the 6'4" center we need to beef up our interior game.

Looks like another good class. Assuming no defections we will have a roster of 13 players next year. Still have 2 schollies but I don't expect HCJA will use those this year.

    Here is the official announcement:

WICHITA -- Second-year head coach Jody Adams has announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent to play women's basketball at Wichita State beginning with the 2010-11 season. Krystle Henderson, BreAnna Dawkins, Kelsey Jacobs and Shannika Bryant will all join the Shockers next year.

I really like how unique our class is," Adams said. "We are bringing in a true point guard in Krystle, and a true center in Shannika, and that was something we weren't able to do with last year's class. We had the chance to really address specific needs with this class, and the addition of BreAnna's athleticism and Kelsey's skill and work ethic upgrades our talent and depth, which is a necessary component to move this program forward to the next level.

Would I be too optimistic if I think the Shocks will be in contention for an MVC Championship next year?

Maybe, but I making that call right now.

No, you wouldn't be too optimistic. I would go a step further and say that I will be disappointed (and I know Jody will as well) if we don't compete for the Valley title next year.

I don't know. Here is the tweet from Jody that mentioned them back in August.

What we don't know is what class thes twins are in. They could be the Class of 2011 or maybe even 2012. Jody told me that she has made offers already in these classes but provided no other details. Of course, these commitments would just be verbals and as we know things can change. Or it could be things did change. Who knows.

Video added at goShockers.com with Jody commenting on her recruiting class:

Looks like the Coaches worked hard on this class and are developing some inroads in good locations with 2 recruits out of Dallas, one from Chicago and 1 from California.

Yes, I would like to pick off a couple of highly ranked Kansas or Wichita kids, but only if they are solid D-1 prospects.

Nevertheless, I like what I have seen so far on the recruiting front the last two years. Now we will see how good HCJA is at coaching them up and maintaining team chemistry.

As far as local kids go I hope Adams was in on the girl from Cheney. I haven't seen her play in a couple of years but everyone I talk to says she's legit D1 talent. I know a lot of people hoping she'd end up a Shocker. I'm pretty sure she's a SR this year.

Was is or is in? I assume you are referring to 6'3" Merissa Quick. If so, I think she is a Junior this year and would be in the Class of 2011.

Haven't heard anything about Merissa. Of course, it takes more than the Coaching Staff and a lot of people hoping she will end of as a Shocker. Most importantly Merissa and her family have to be open to the possibility.

Right now K-State and KU seem to have the upper hand in recruiting Kansas female basketball players.

The only local player signing a D-1 LOI this week was Tiffany Bias (Andover Central) with Oklahoma State. Karly Buer, a 5'7" All-State point guard out of defending Class 4A champ Concordia, signed with MSU. I would like to at least beat out MSU on the better Kansas kids.

MSU still has the Jackie Stiles legacy to sell (especially to the small town kids) and their fan support has traditionally been much stronger than the Shocks. Hopefully, we will have some good success under HCJA and start to build our fan base which I would think would help with recruiting.

Let me say that while I would like the Shocks to recruit local and Kansas kids that is not necessarily a litmus test for me.

I would rather win with out of state recruits than lose with local and Kansas recruits.

Preferably I would like to win with a mix of out of state and in state recruits. A few successful local recruits would certainly not hurt the effort to build the fan base.

Bottom line though is that we need to estabish a winning tradition with consistent forays into post season play. That is the most important thing needed to build the fan base.

I think that is the girl. Name sounds familiar. I guess she's made enough noise for me to think she would be a SR this year. Either way, Adams should be all over her. If we land her or not she should definitely be a target.

Bias signing with OSU is no surprise. I've heard she's taken a number of visits down there.

Hopefully Adams can get the Shox winning some games and bring more people out. Good attendance can never hurt recruiting. And there are enough D1 girls in this state to help.

I agree with all that. It's just that KS produces enough D1 talent that we should be going after some of them. Landing them is completely different but I've heard past stories of kids that would have liked to come to WSU but were never approached by the previous staff.

I would love to see HCJA follow up with another 6'3"+ post next year to add to the mix.

If you have quality 6'4" and 6'3" posts and can throw Chynna, Jazimen and Michelle in at the 4 and then add the quality guards the Shocks have and have coming in we should be pretty darn formidable.
