  • Shocker Madness Impressions

Overall I was favorably impressed with what I saw from the Shocker Ladies tonight.

IIRC, last year the Ladies really struggled to score during their Shocker Madness scrimmage (and throughout the season). Tonight's 29-18 score in 15 running minutes wasn't too bad.

The players that most impressed me were:

Morgan Boyd - she is longer and more athletic than I expected and looks to have very good range. I can see why she was Kansas Gatorade Female POY. Wished we had her for 3 years.

Jessica Diamond - very impressed with Jessica. She is quick, can shake and bake (create her shot) and has a very nice looking shot. Is Marisah Henderson's starting job at risk? Maybe, although she has a big experience advantage.

Haleigh Lankster - we knew Haliegh is a terrific athlete, but she looked much more comfortable shooting the ball tonight than she did last year. Hit a couple of long bombs and was not hesitant at all about cutting it loose.

Chynna Turner - big, strong girl who looks like she knows how to use that big, strong body. Good moves and a good touch. Should be a good rebounder.

I'm thinking we will be a better team this year and things are definitely pointing in the right direction.

I agree. As I mentioned in the mens post, I think Diamond is going to be a star. Her defense was really good, especially for a FR.

I wondered how much of her stats were from playing with the 6-7 girl that went to Baylor, but she is the real deal. She will be a FAV before she is done.

Several good shooters with range, and Gordon will learn to use her height more playing against Chynna. Also loved that fast break where she was first one down the floor.

Last year you just held your breath anytime Marcy or Daria got into foul trouble. This year I think we will be deeper and stronger off the bench.

Agree with the both of you.

Jessica was the best player on the floor, by far. She is a baller and about a 300% upgrade in talent from recent years.

Not sure if the ladies will have a better record or not, but they are going to be better I promise you.

Diamond and Lankster were the two that impressed me the most.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
          RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

I posted this in the other thread, but I'll add it here:

The real surprise was the Women's team. Saw more than I expected. They played well together, moved the ball nicely, and can run.

Jessica Diamond looked very good. She's one very confident freshman. Chynna Turner, another freshman, will be tough to handle inside. Of the other new players, Morgan Boyd looked solid.

I know it's early in the season, but these gals looked like they really enjoyed playing with each other.
