  • Friends Softball at NAIA Nationals

    Eight seniors!!

Friends (#22 in the latest NAIA poll) is in pool play with California Baptist (#1), Park (RV - #33) and Hastings (RV - #45). It appears that Friends is "seeded" second in their pool. They will play one game in pool play on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The winner of each of eight pools advances to a double-elimination tournament that begins on Monday.

    Friends 6-5 Park

Despite allowing three unearned runs, Friends wins. This has to feel good after going 0-4 in pool play at last year's Nationals.

    Also from their pool,

    Hastings 1-5 California Baptist

    Friends plays Hastings tomorrow.

Friends should have a good shot at beating Hastings.

There is an intriguing match-up in Pool D today - Madonna vs. Holy Names. :)

          Friends 1-2 Hastings

After Brandi Leeker and Friends allowed only one hit through five innings, Hastings strings together three hits to produce two runs in the sixth. Friends had the first two runners reach base in the seventh but could not score. Friends had ten hits on the day.

Friends now needs to beat #1 Cal Baptist, who is undefeated in pool play, tomorrow and win the applicable tie-breaker to advance out of pool play.

Even if they don't advance, they improved over last season's appearance, and have two good pitchers coming in for next year.

I know they signed a pitcher from Garden City Juco, who else did they sign?

Friends is scheduled to play next, but there is a rain delay at the tournament in Decatur, AL. Quite possibly this is the same storm system that went through here yesterday.

                    Cal Baptist 8-0(6) Friends

Cal Baptist scores four in the first and cruises to a run-rule victory. Friends managed only a fifth-inning single against the #1 seed in the tournament. Cal Baptist wins the pool and advances to the double-elimination tournament that begins tomorrow.

Congratulations to the Lady Falcons on a great season!

Sounds like they had a tough draw getting the same pool as Cal Baptist.
Great season though and represented Kansas Softball well :good:
