Picked 7th, the lady Shocks fired the 8th best round in program history and sit 2nd after day 1 of 3 in Omaha, Nebraska.

PANORA, Iowa - Two members of the Wichita State women's golf team finished in the top-10 as the Shockers finished third at the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship, which concluded Sunday at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora, Iowa.

Unfortunately, the Shocks are a little closer to normal today. As of this moment, they are still tied for 2nd, but they have a lot of holes left to play and they are more over par than any other team at the same point.

They will have to scramble big time to finish in the top 5 I think.

Well they finished strong yet again. This team has shown a lot of fight so far.

They stand alone in 3rd...closer to 2nd than to 4th.

They could finish anywhere from 1-7 still I think but to even discuss the possibility of an MVC Championship would have been unthinkable at the start of the year.

Coaches McCurdy and Kolb have a lot to be proud of and should be able to build the program very, very quickly.

Well, tons of work to be done electronically today, so follow the action online I will.

Shocks off to an early decent start. The goal should be holding 3rd which would be a tremendous accomplishment for this team. Anything above 4, imho, is a victory for the program.

Let's see how it plays out today.

The team is playing well so far. They take the four best scores out of 5 players, so its important for the weakest player not to "lose touch" early or it really wears on the rest of the team.

So far, everything is going according to plan. Heavy favorite ISU is leading and has the best score today. WSU has the 2nd best team score today and is holding third.

Rough set of holes for us. Coming up on the turn and for the first time in the tournament the Shocks seem to be facing some adversity.

They have fallen much closer to 4th than 2nd. ISU is running away with title and barring a meltdown, that place is decided.

Drake is solidly in 2nd....UNI is moving in on MSU for 4th and we're hanging on in third.

I cannot tell you how big this is for the All Sports Championship.

The ladies righted the ship a bit. They need to finish the front nine strong and make it a 2 team battle for 2nd.

More likely though is a 3 or 4 way battle for third.

Another good couple of holes for the Shocks. They have opened up 11 shots on 4th place MSU and UNI is further back. Both of those teams have at least one player "in trouble" which puts pressure on the remaining teammates to score well and tough to come back.

Still in third, 5 behind Drake, 11 clear of MSU.

Great set of holes for the Shocks.

Missouri State is now 16 shots behind WSU in 4th. Still in 2nd, Drake's #4 player has lost touch and looks to be out of the scoring meaning their weakest player's score is going to count. If she struggles, and certainly could, then 2nd is not out of the question.

Once 20 shots clear of the field, Illinois State is struggling as well.

                  As it stands right now.....

                  1. ISU
                  2. Drake 9 shots back
                  3. WSU 4 shots behind Drake
                  4. MSU 16 shots behind the Shocks

No big changes.....Drake is now only 2 clear of the Shocks, their #4 is in deep water and there 3 and 5 are struggling a little.

UNI moves into 4th but is still 13 behind WSU. Our bottom 2 players are struggling now, fortunately our top 3 are playing very well.

Illinois State is 12 clear of the Geese.

Indiana State has the best score of the day and is threatening to climb from 8th to 4th.

No big change....Senior Megan Bartlett is fighting for a top finish....currently tied for 4th.

Shocks remain in 3rd, now 6 behind Drake and 13 ahead of Missouri State.

Drake is still depending on their 5th for a score.

Illinois State now in front by 14......

but now in front of the SHOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trouble looms as redshirt freshman Erin Koons blew up and lost touch. All four other scores now must count. Drake is 2 back and then another 15 back to Missouri State. The course conditions must be brutal today as the scores are soaring. There are still about 7 holes remaining.

Let me add there is still a LOT of work to be done. Missouri State is finishing well and ISU blue is finishing up strong. With the conditions worsening, it is going to be a struggle to finish at all.

Back into 3rd and only 5 shots out of 4th....again with all the holes left we are now in big, big trouble.

I could easily see Indiana State, who is almost done, finishing as high as 2nd.

                              Anything is now possible.
