  • Shocker Softball at Razorback Invitational-Fayetteville, AR

First, this is clearly not a Classic tournament. (Think about it.)

The Shocks play South Dakota State and Ball State on Friday followed by Bradley and Arkansas on Saturday. Sunday is bracket play.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are a member of the Summit League and were a preseason for fourth of nine teams. They are 2-11 on the season. Valley teams they have played include Northern Iowa (4-3 loss at the UNI Dome tournament) and Creighton (another 4-3 loss at the Tulsa tournament last weekend).

Ball State are 2-3, opening their season last weekend at the Georgia tournament. The Cardinals are a preseason pick for second of six teams in the MAC West.

Bradley are preseason picks for ninth in the Valley. They are 6-3 on the season. They were off last week, but lost to Iowa State, 5-3, in an earlier tournament and beat Kansas, 2-0, two weeks ago.

The host Razorbacks are 7-7 to this point in 2009. They lost to Drake, 6-5, and Northern Iowa, 7-0, in the Metrodome (Minnesota) tournament. They are preseason picks for fifth of six teams in the SEC-West.

Assuming the teams with the best and second best records during the round-robin portion of the tournament play for the championship, I will be very disappointed if we are not playing in that game, given the strength of the field at this tournament.

Agreed. That's why I highlighted the Championship game in yellow for Sunday. Plus you just have to have a little positive thinking.

I am saving all of my positive thinking for the WBB game against Southern Illinois tomorrow night. :)

That is all I will be able to contribute as I won't be able to make Friday's game against SIU, although I have given my tickets to others.

Kasha gets the start against South Dakota State. BreAnna is back at short and Lauren starts at third and Brittney Osborn in left. The rest of the lineup is the regulars.

Shocks add two more runs in the fourth on a Lauren Coleman double, stretching the lead to 7-0 after four.

Breezy comes in to start the top of the fifth. Kasha had seven Ks in her four innings, allowing only a double in the fourth.

                          Shocks up 7-0 after 4.

Brianna into pitch in relied of Kasha who allowed 1 hit and no runs over 4 innings.

Brianna has given up 2 singles and a walk sol far in the 5th nad has given up two runs.

Shocks up 7-2 going into the bottom of the 5th.

Three up, three down in the top of the seventh, and the Shocks win 7-3. Breezy gave up two in the fifth and another run in the sixth with only one of the runs being earned (according to the box score - I count two earned).

Lauren with two hits, including a double, and three RBI is the leading hitter for the Shocks.

Kasha had a very nice four innings with seven strike outs and only one hit allowed.

                              Shocks win 7-3.

Kasha with her 3rd good outing in the last 4.

Brianna struggled a little bit. Might have been a little cold for the California girl.

                              Good start for the Shocks.

Shocks get the 9:00 am game both Firday and Saturday. The Razorbacks did not do the Shocks any favors with the time slots they were plugged into.
