North Carolina is up next, and I suspect we will get their ace, too. If we only had one.

I expect Breezy to get the start - right now she is the only pitcher who has a chance to keep us in a game.

No - Kasha gets the start. I suppose you have to try to get her untracked sometime. We shall see.

We see Danielle Spaulding, the Tar Heels ace, who is averaging more than two strike outs per inning in the young season.

She gets three Ks in the top of the first, sandwiched around a walk to Kara.

Now we see what Kasha has got - how mentally tough she is and how quickly she is adapting to D-I ball.

Three up, three down with a strikeout. So far, so good.

Good start for Kasha with a 1-2-3 first inning.

I wish we had an alliance with CSTV - Gametracker is so much better for any sport than its competitors.

BreAnna manages a walk in the top of the second.

Carolina has a double and a run-scoring single to begin the bottom half. But a bloop to center leads to a force at second and a fly out and ground out end the inning with no further damage.

The long ball strikes again in the bottom of the second. A three-run blast and Breezy is in the game.

Breezy works around two errors and a single to get out of the inning. Carolina, 4-0 after three.

A walk to Kara and a single by Heather, but three strike outs bring Danielle's total to eight for four innings pitched.

Breezy is three-up, three-down with two Ks in the bottom half.

A walk to Jamie and a single by Kiersten get two runners on, but Spaulding ends the threat with her second strike out of the inning. Still 4-0 as we go to the bottom of the fifth.

Single, single, walk - Carolina has the bases loaded with no one out.

A fielder's choice scores one, but we end the inning with a 5-4-2 DP.

Two more Ks in the top of the sixth bring Spaulding's total to twelve for the game.

Walk, single and fielder's choice and the bases are loaded in the bottom of the sixth. We walk in one run and a sac fly plates another. A ground out ends the inning, and we go to the top of the seventh trailing, 7-0.

After two strikeouts (fourteen for the game), we get a walk before a force out ends the game. Carolina wins, 7-0. Only two hits in this one.

Tomorrow, Penn State is the first game of the day for the tournament and only game of the day for the Shocks.

Pretty much expected 0-2 for today, but I had hoped we would be a little more competitive.

We were in the Cal game through 5 innings I guess.

Looks like it may be a long season with this young and, so far, relatively ineffective pitching staff. Things could improve, only time will tell for sure, but I'm lowering my expectations quite a bit.

Shocks fall to Penn State 4-0 today.

The Shocks pithing, Kasha 2.0 innings and Brianna 5.0 innings had their besst outing of the year althought they did give up 10 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter. Probably did well to hold Penn State to 4 runs.

Shocks offense which was very good last weekend was shut out for the 3rd consecutive game this weekend managing only 5 hits today.

Shocks fall to 2-5 on the season.
