  • Women's Indoor Track Thread

Thought I'd just start a thread for the indoor season instead of each meet since there's not a whole lot of activity in this forum.

Lady Shockers head to Nebraska this weekend for a scored meet with Nebraska, Kansas, Florida State, and Alabama. Should be a heck of a meet and will be interesting to see how they stack up against these Big 12 and SEC schools in a scored meet!

Latest Youtube video on the Texas Tech meet is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo1t2...e=channel_page

Lady Shox have some nice things happen at Nebraska against Nebraska, KU, Alabama, and Florida State ...

-Kellyn Johnson demolishes the field by 5 seconds in the mile with an NCAA qualifying time (4:48)
-Brooke Demo won the pole vault at 12-7.5, 5 other girls clear 11ft or higher to back her up
-Sasha Manuel 5th in the hurdles with a nice pr
-Rookie Brittany Hemphill has a nice sprint meet with 4th in the 60 (7.7) and 2nd in the 200 (24.8)
-Lauren Eck and Danielle Walker went 2-3 in the 800, nice performances from a couple of youngsters
-4x4 got 2nd, 3 freshmen I believe on that team!
-Throwers still kind of slow getting going but Kate Schaake has been consistent in the Shot
-Jumpers had an average meet but I heard it is a tough place to jump far (don't know why)

-Nebraska won the meet, KU was 2nd, Alabama beat WSU by one point for 3rd. Even though this kind of a scored meet isn't like the MVC it is good to see the Shox be very competitive with these schools overall.

I think only the Multi's are competing next week at Nebraska, and I heard a rumor Audacia Moore might be coming back soon!

LINCOLN, Neb. ? The Wichita State University track and field team collected two individual victories and broke the school record in the men's indoor 4x400-meter relay, at the adidas Classic in Lincoln, Neb., which featured a host of nationally-ranked teams.

Lady Shox will only have a few competing this weekend as the multi-eventers and Brooke Demo (Pole Vault) travel to Nebraska.

Also Audacia Moore makes her season debut at the Oklahoma University in the 60m dash. Great to see her back!

This week's Youtube video is up, those guys are funny:

With most of the team off, the biggest news of the weekend for the women was Audacia Moore opening up her season after missing the past month with mono. Looked impressive winning at Oklahoma in 7.69 for the 60m dash. That time puts her 3rd in the MVC. Not bad considering what she went through recently and what a 1-2 freshmen combination in the sprints with Moore and Brittany Hemphill!

Brooke Demo cleared 12-9 at Nebraska, she is vaulting very consistently. The multi's didn't do anything spectacular in their portion of the meet, hopefully they'll improve at MVC's.

Shockers will split their squad this weekend with the runners going to the Iowa State Classic and the field event athletes going to the Air Force Academy Invitational. This weekend should show where the Shocker stand in the MVC as most of the conference schools will be at Iowa State. Go Shox!

Some great performances this past weekend for the Lady Shockers ... 2 weeks until the MVC Indoor at UNI.

-Kellyn Johnson had an unreal weekend going 9:21 to win the 3k and anchoring the DMR to a win with a 4:41 mile. That team broke the school record by an amazing 22 seconds!!! Other members were Olivia Martinez, Lauren Eck, and Emily Ballock. The Iowa State meet was a huge meet with lots of schools from the Big 12, Big 10, SEC, and more so to win 2 events at that meet is a pretty big deal for WSU.
-Women's 4x4 ran 3:47, one second off the school record.
-Lots of solid runs for the distance runners from 800m through 3000m.
-At Air Force, Brooke Demo pole vaulted 13-3 for a new indoor best.
-Brittany Hemphill ran a 24.71 200m with Tish Brown going 19-1 in the Long Jump.
-Kate Schaake keeps improving with a 46-4 Shot Put.
-Erika Kovesi goes over 40 ft in the triple jump for the first time this year.

You can watch full races as well as interviews with Kellyn Johnson and the DMR team on www.flotrack.com they have all the races from Iowa State.

As always, thanks for the report and the links goshox74.

              Kellen's 3K run was the H01 (Seeded).

Kellen was absolutely great in her two races. Really blowing away a pretty good field in both cases. Very, very impressive.

Was that big gal photo shopped in that almost tripped her with 2 laps left?

What in the hell was she doing? Never looked up.

The lady in white? Yeah, I noticed that. Kind of like Kevin Costner's brother-in-law in Field of Dreams totally oblvious to the game he walks right through.

Looks like these big indoor meets are kind of like a Chinese fire drill in any case.

Yeah that was funny, wouldn't have been funny if Kellyn ran into her. She almost looked like an official.

Shocker distance girls will run Friday at Nebraska and the rest of the team will go to K-State Saturday for their final tune-up before next week's MVC Indoor Championships at UNI. Word is Kellyn Johnson is going to go after a fast mile at Nebraska, hopefully qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

Big highlight of this past weekend was Kellyn Johnson's 4:42 mile at Nebraska!!! Hey everybody that is REALLY fast, this girl is rolling every race she runs and right at the right time for the MVC Championships. You can watch the full race and listen to her and Coach Burns narrate it here:
Kellyn Johnson and Coach March Burns narrate Kellyn's 4:42 mile at the Nebraska Tune-up

                        Pretty cool.

The rest of the Shockers were pretty low key since MVC is this week. Audacia Moore won 2 more races at K-State and the women hurdlers ran very well. Kate Schaake keeps improving in the Shot along with La'Taish Brown in the Long Jump. Looks like this weekend will be a battle with SIU, Indiana State, and Missouri State. UNI won last year but they look down this year.

It might be a longshot but a title this weekend is not out of the question for these young ladies. Go shox!

Thanks, goshox74. Kellyn is a lot of fun to watch. Looking forward to seeing what she can do when she can run with other runners of her level.

I'll try during some off time to break down what I can on how the team is doing.

My apologies for any wrong or misleading information.

Under way this morning with the multis.

WSU goes 1-2 in the 60 hurdles in the pentathalon. Jr. Selena Burns runs a PR 8.94 to take 1st and Fr. Cassie Craig also ran a PR 9 flat to take 2nd.

I assume our best chance of scoring would come from Sr. Stephanie Hammond, but she ran a slower than usual 9.97 and scored only 718.
