  • Lady Shocks v Missouri State

Today and next weekend will tell us where we are in the bottom five. Yes, Northern Iowa is part of the group - their 4-1 record before the weekend was primarily against the softer part of their conference schedule, much as ours has been against the tougher part of the conference schedule.

    I am hopeful.

Nice win, fun to watch, but not the pretties we've played this year. Best overall officiated game of the year.

For a while it looked like the game might come down to the 2 technical free throws Marcy made before the opening tipoff. Apparently MSU failed to report their starting lineup to the official scorer.

Marcy Sudbeck was outstanding, although her free throw shooting was below par for her. Marcy had a career high 28 points, 9 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals, including a key steal late in the game.

Shocks could have made things much easier on themselves if the had shot their free throws better and they had plenty of opportunities going 23-37 for 62.2%. MSU on the other hand made 23 of 28 from the line for 82.1%.

However, credit to Freshman Haleigh Lankster who hit two big free throws with 7 seconds left to close out the game.

Daria in foul trouble again, but played well with 4 fouls down the stretch and avoided fouling out.

Marisah had a pretty good game overall, although she showed poor judgement on several plays.

Ashley contributed 10 rebounds, although overall the Shocks lost the battle of the boards including giving up 20 offensive rebounds which was a key factor in keeping MSU in the game.

Jacie had a below par game. 2-9 from the field, 1 assist and 5 turnovers.
Overall the Shocks had 14 assists on 20 baskets and 14 turnovers which was a pretty good perfromance.

I thought the Shocks played much better in the two close losses to INS and ILS, but the result was better today.

Now let's see if we can break the long MVC road losing streak next week.

The big positive from this game IMHO was that when MSU's Maggie Dwyer and Casey Garrison hit back to back three's with around 5:30 left in the game to give MSU a 57 - 53 lead and seemed to totally shift the momentum to the Bears, the Shockers hung tough and closed out the game in positive fashion.

Somehting the failed to do vs INS and ILS last week.

          :goshocks: :good:

On the post-game show, Jody noted that Missouri State was young in the post (#44 and #40 played much of the post defense and are both freshmen), and Marcy definitely schooled them.

Yeah, they were 3 of 8 down the stretch until Haleigh hit her two throws.

It may be my selective memory, but it seems that one of the two of them is off a bit in any particular game.

Agreed. It was not at all pretty, but it was a win.

In the post-game show, Jody evaluated our defense on Casey Garrison, (another freshman) who led the Bears with 23, as average-to-poor. But Haleigh did very well on Garrison's last shot, making her take a tough runner to her left.

We will need to play better than that on the road next week, but we have also shown that we can do it.

Coach Milleson of Missouri State graduated from K-State ... and was captain of the rodeo team(!) in her two years there.

Good chance we saw the Freshman of the Year in MSU's Casey Garrison.

Very impressive performance for, especially for a Freshman.

She is a big guard who pretty much abused our smaller guards on the boards as she had 13 rebounds, including 7 on the offensive boards.
