Have we forgotten that Northern Iowa was without their best player. If she would have been playing it would have been a completely different turnout.

I think finishing in the Top half of the Valley is a big stretch, but I hope I am wrong.

I agree with Moose. The upcoming road trip is a great opportunity for the Shocks to show they are making real progress.

Oh, please. There is simply no way to tell.

Pre-injury, they beat Western Illinois at home by 15, and we beat Western at home by 19. The other common opponent, Colorado State, was post-injury. But beyond that, we played Colorado State a month before they did and they played Western Illinois a month before we did. Teams can change a lot in a month.

There is simply no way to tell. IMHO.

I meant to say that I was not that optimistic, either. I think I would be happy with 7th actually, but maybe 6th is possible.

Good post. You are right, there is no way to tell. But more than that it simply doesn't matter. You get your record based on what you are not what you wished you were. Would we have been better if players and recruits hadn't left the team following Jane's departure and starters didn't have to play so many minutes? Probably so. Will we ever be judged on what we would have been in that case? Of course not. Injuries and others events change the outcomes of teams but at the end of the day, the team is what it is. UNI is not as good as us right now and the question of whether they would have been if they had another player is irrelevant. I think that it is fair to say that our one injured player has a dramatic affect on us because we are left with only three subs. But Jody has (rightfully) made no excuses because she knows it doesn't matter. You can't change what happens to you. You can only become the best you can be with what you have. Right now, it looks like the WSU women are doing a pretty good job with understanding that and displaying a lot of mental toughness. Good for them.

I made that call also, you could tell she had no idea where to go on the inbounds which forced the first one to go to Val. It's a different world when your best ball handler is your power forward and you want them to get it to your center for free throws...

I am about to the point of looking forward more to the Lady Shocker games than the men's games. Another effort by the men like they gave at UNI and I probably will reach that point.

The Ladies will occassionally be overmatched, but they pretty much bring their lunch pails to every game and you pretty much know you are going to get great effort. They have many of the same shortcomings as the men (mostly on the offensive side of the ball) and I will gripe about those on occassion, but they do play hard almost without exception and that is with a very short bench. Whether or not they can hold up physically over the full season remains to be seen, but they seem willing to put whatever they have in the tank on the line.

For that they have my admiration and support, regardless of what happens in the win-loss column.

                    :goshocks: :good:

yeah, the offense may not always be there, but with the exception of the 2nd half vs. Kent State and the game against Bradley (who couldn't miss, let's face it), they play at a very high intensity on the defensive end...of course, that's what is expected of them from coach adams, but they're definitely buying into that leading to their success

When you looked at what we had available it wasn't a hard call, atlhough it was a little scary.

Marcy now 60-69 from the line for a "cool" 87.0%. Her only off game from the line was 2-5 effort against App State.

Daria is shooting 50.4% from the field, but only 48.7% from the line. No way is she that bad of a free throw shooter. Hopefully, that part of her game gets back on track because she has the athleticism to get to the line frequently.

Next Big Question: Only 2 road games and 1 neutral site game out of 13 this year. How will the Ladies respnd to playing on the road in the Valley? Road results under the prior regime were not pretty at all. Will it be any different this year? Were going to find out with 9 or our remaining 16 games on the road.
