  • Lady Shocks v Appalachian State

    WSU 63-46 Appalachian State

    That was some ugly basketball.

Turnovers (25 for us, 32 for them), poor shot selection, missed layups - unwilling to take the ball strong to the hole and either make it or get fouled, bad passes, getting outrebounded.

But a win is a win and perhaps some of this is to be expected with the layoff.

However, the defense was strong the entire game.

Marcy is nursing a tender ankle and, with foul trouble, played only 13 minutes, so others got significant minutes - eight of the nine had ten or more minutes. Jadhon especially had a nice game with a career high nine points. Marisa led all scorers with 16. Five Shocks had eight or more points.

Good overview flyingMoose! It was definitely utt bugly basketball.

App State went big and got Marcy into foul trouble. Jody did a nice job working around that.

Shocks missed a heckuva a lot of layups. They need to be a little more patient and they will get good shots. At times they tend to rush things and to force things. They also need to look for Val lurking aroung the perimeter as much as possible. She took only 2 treys tonight and hit them both.

Jadhon Kerr is probably the most improved player since last year. Showing an offensive game I did not know she had.

Haleigh Lankster brings a lot of energy off the bench and causes a lot of havoc on the defensive end, although offensively she has some work to do.

Not sure if tonight's performance was good enough to win many MVC games or not, but it was plenty good enough tonight.

I think I noticed Jody telling Jacie that very thing once - Val is over here waiting for the pass, and you drove into the trees with nothing good happening. Marisah made a couple of layups and nice interior passes after driving into the paint, but Jacie tends to have to force something when she does that.

I agree on the improvement. I always thought she had a nice little twelve-to-fifteen foot jumper, but with her shooting motion starting so low, I wondered how often she would be able to get the shot off.

She may get a lot of playing time as the lock-down defender on the perimeter.

When the Valley starts, the rebounding may become a much bigger issue. But when you start two point guards, a shooting guard, a small forward and a power forward (which is simply what Jody has to work with), rebounding may be an issue all season long. (And, yes, a number of Valley teams do not have true post players.)

So do you want to do the UA-Pine Bluff report? :)
