This should be a SN goal for the fall. VB is a great sport, coach Lamb is very good, assistant coach Lamb is very nice (and a good coach) and the VB players are great people.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I agree, although I'm not sure ShockerNet reaches enough casual fans to have much of an impact. We are pretty much preaching to the choir on ShockerNet, home of some of the most passionate and rabid Shocker Fans, although not a huge number of them.

I would love to see us at 3,000 but that is going to be a tall order. We increased our attendance from 1,998/Match in 2005 (#13 nationally IIRC) by 85 to 2,083/Match in 2006 (#10 nationally IIRC).

I have squawked and squawked about VB attendance on SN to the point of probably being somewhat of an irritant, but I don't think I have had much impact on improving attendance.

Hopefully, Jim Schaus is working on a great marketing plan as we discuss this.

If I'm Jim Schaus (and of course, I'm not, which probably also means I don't know what I'm talking about), I get flyers, promos, discount tickets, etc. to every high school athletic director (not just volleyball coaches) within 1-2 hours drive from Wichita. There is not better volleyball within a 3 hour drive. Get the kids (gals and guys) in the arena.

I know there are already a lot of young female v-ball players who go to games, but I bet with some work, they can get the boys interested. If you get kids hooked, they'll bring friends/parents or come again and just might grow the overall WSU fanbase in the process.

Royal is right. Getting the kids of today hooked on it will help grow the product.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
          RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

I'm on the same boat with '72 and Spangler in regards to Volleyball.

I never thought much of it until 4 seasons ago when I went to my 1st WSU match and I've been hooked ever since.

It is a wonderful sporting event. The SAs really care and they provide a fast paced, competitive, enjoyable product.

It would seem to me that 6k + to the KSU game and a top 10 national attendance would be reasonable goals.

I will be renewing my season tickets and visiting with the powers at be about some "extras" to do some of my own marketing.

I think great beginning to promoting Volleyball starts with SN putting the link to Volleyball on the main forum index listing along with Men's Basketball and Men's Baseball. It's time to add Women's Volleyball.

There wouldn't be much work involved at all to get HS boys interested. Just show them a team pic in their unis.

Can Emily Stockman play VB this year? Does she have to sit out one year?

I responded to lemuel's suggestion in the Comments forum. But to expand on that a little, I'm open to a dedicated VB forum, but I want to see how much discussion there is once the season gets underway. If it looks like VB discussion can support it's own forum, I'll probably do it.

Nice comments on how to get more people interested if you were Jim Schaus. But, not being Jim Schuas but the guy who runs SN you do have the power to do your part and that's putting VB on the main forum index and posting VB related news on the main page. Let's put some action to your desire to increase exposure to the wonderful WSU VB team.

Rather than try to carry on two discussions, here is a link to the subject on the Comments board.

But to summarize, there is more at stake than just VB discussion.

                              Code:
                              Sub CreateWomensSportsForum()
Dim WomensSports (1 to 7) as AthleticTeamType
                                Dim Volleyball as AthleticTeamType
                                Dim Cnt as Integer

                                For Cnt = 1 To 7
                                  GetFromWomensSportsForum (WomensSports(Cnt), Cnt)
                                  If Cnt = 1 Then
                                    Volleyball = WomensSports(Cnt)
                                    RemoveWomensSport (Cnt)
                                  End If
                                Next Cnt

                                CreateMainForum (Volleyball)

                              End Sub
Sorry, had to throw in some programmer humor with all the talk of VB.

                                http://www.kansas.com/250/story/104794.html
I'm assuming she can play this year since the article talked about her arrival allowing us to keep Queen Sara (and I mean that in a King James sort of way) on the right side. This is Sara's last year, so she must be available immediately.

Sounds like a nice addition to the team. Winthrop has been beddy, beddy, good to the Shockers lately!

Wow, a roster of 21 players, and that's after Epiphany Davis transferred to Illinois-Chicago.

Perhaps Coach Lamb has decided he will build our attendance with the player roster.

2-months to the showdown with K-State!

                                :goshocks:
