The Loyala pitcher, Keenan Dolezal, is having a bit of an issue with illegal pitches. Apparently, she is not coming set. She has a very unusual setup where she steps on the rubber and then dips down. You tell it is uncomortable for her to pause on the dip.

She had Mckenzie Adams struck out to lead off the pitch but the call the stirke out pitch illegal because of the above and then Mckenzie singled to left.

She just had a 3rd illegal pitch for a crow hop. Loyola is making a pitching change bringing Kiley Jones back into the game. I think the illegal pitches were effecting Dolezal.

        Could this be her cousin?

To get technical on you, she is not maintaining contact with the ground with her pivot foot and is leaping (both feet off the ground at the same time). A crow hop is pushing off from some place other than the pitcher's plate. This typically happens when the pitcher slides her foot off the front of the pitcher's plate and pushes from there.

I'm consistently amazed how much you know about softball, Moose. Like television analyst smart. Were you a coach or umpire?
In any event, it is a sport I'm starting to follow more and I appreciate your insight

Shocks left a 6 runner stranded in scoring position.

Katie works around a lead off double in the top of the 6th. Shocks still hanging on to a 3-1 lead.

Bad error by on a relatively easy pop foul by Mackenzie Wright allows the hitter new life and Kasubke singles to left with 1 out bringing the tying run to the plate.

The next batter hit the ball off the right field wall to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Personally, I thought that ball should have been, at the very least could have been caught. I thought Paige Luellen was a bit slow getting back and then gave up on it when it was within reach.

However, Katie gets a short fly to left and a very nice play on a ball down the line by Mackenzie Wright to end the game and redeem herself for her earlier error.

                  Shocks survive and advance.

Katie Malone picks up her 26th win of the year extending her school record.

Looking ahead to UNI game today

I checked out the stats for the 2 team via the MVC website. UNI tied for 1st in the MVC with a 20-9 record. WSU finished in 4th place with a 16-9 record.

Hitting wise, the nod goes to WSU with a 0.310 BA whereas for UNI, it was 0.275

Pitching wise, UNI had a staff era of 2.40 compared to WSU's at 2.48

Errors wise, UNI had 54 errors on the season compared to WSU's 55.

WSU was swept by UNI 2 or 3 weeks ago in 2 games. I think the 3rd game was rained out. Looking at the stats of the 2 games, it was a relatively bad showing by both Katie & Jenni. Bailey Klitzke did pitched 2 scoreless innings in one game during mop up duty

Jenni will probably start Vs UNI today. She has been very steady since the UNI game, so let's hope she keeps it up today. I watched an interview of Kelli Spring by MK on the Shocker Report 2 days ago. Kelli said WSU has the best team, & she expects them to win this tournament. WSU wants to keep playing for awhile.

I think Jenni will get the start but will probably be in a pretty short leash since its win or go home. Katie will be ready to come in if Jenni isn't effective.

Down the stretch UNI was playing far and away the best softball in the Valley included two somehwhat easy wins over the Shocks and a sweep of Illinois State who pretty much lead the league until the final day of the season. And most of those wins were decisive victories.

Irrespective of the season stats UNI is playing the best right now and the Shocks will have to bring their A game to get by them IMO.

SIU leading MSU 8-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th. Thought the WSU-LOY game moved right along. This one is dragging a bit.

Looks like the WSU-UNI game will probably start closer to 4:30 than to 4:00.

                        Update: SIU 9 - MSU 3 Final

Jenni is in the circle to start the UNI game as expected. She struggled a bit through the bottom half of the 1st inninng (UNI is the home team). A lead off double followed by a ground out and a sac fly produced a run. She then walked the next two batters before getting a fly to CF to end the inning.

In the top of 3rd with Ashley Johnsons on 2nd and 2 outs Mackenzie Wright swung at a 2-2 pitch that was about eye high and drove the ball to the wall in CF but just could not quite get on top of the ball enough to get it out of the park.

Katie Malone comes on to start the 3rd in relief of Jenni and hits the UNI lead off batter with her 1st pitch. After getting ahead 0-2 on the next batter she gave up an infield hit on a ball that was hit into the 5-6 hole just hard enough to get by Mackenzie at 3rd but too slow for Laurie to have a play from SS even though she fielded the ball cleanly.

Katie then induced a pop out to Macklin at 1B and then the Shocks turned a slick 4-6-3 double play to get out of the inning.

Now it's time to get the bats going.

In the Shockers' 4th Kelli Spring lead of with a bunt single and advance to 2nd on a throwing error. Mckenzie Adams followed with a horrible AB with two poor attemtps at a sac bunt and then struck out looking. Madison Perrigan bailed Mckenzie out with a hard hit one hopper down the line that deflected off the end of the UNI thrid basemen's glove and went into the UNI dugout.

Madison ends up at 2nd and Kelli scores from 2nd to tie the game at 1-all.

After a ground out moved Madison to 3rd I thought the Shocks got a bit of bad luck when Laurie Derrico was just ever so slightly ticked with an inside pitch. Asea Webber then grounded out weakly to 2B. I would have preferred to have Laurie able to swing the bat in that situation. Probably made no difference.

In the bottom of the inning Katie gives up a lead off double on a 1-2 pitch but got flies to CF, RF and CF with no advance of the runner to maintain the 1-1 tie.
