Shocker SB at Northern Iowa

An inauspicious beginning. The Shocks go down in order in the first, including two strike outs. The Panthers: double, Kelli error, walk, two-out fielder's choice (who knows? no video) that scores a run, grand slam and Jenni is on. Five unearned runs.

Northern Iowa leads 5-0 after one.

Another error by Kelli results in another unearned run in the third for the Panthers.

Northern Iowa, 6-0 after three.

The Shocks get three back in the fourth. Walk to Laurie, single by Asea, walk to Paige, infield single by Ashley to score one and singles by Mackenzie and Kelli score two more.

Northern Iowa leads 6-3 after four.

The Shockers pick up another run in the fifth. After two are out, Madison walks and infield singles by Asea and Paige manage to score her.

With two outs in the bottom half, the Panthers string together three singles to get the run back.

Northern Iowa, 7-4 after five.

In the Shocker sixth, Ashley singles, McKenzie singles and Macklin hitz a game-tying, three-run homer with two outs.

7-7 with the Panthers coming to bat.

In the bottom of the sixth, Katie replaces Jenni with one out after a walk and hit batter. Katie then illegals them to second and third. A sac fly scores one run, a double scores another, and Northern Iowa takes a 9-7 lead to the seventh.

With two outs, Paige walks but the Shocks can go no further.


Shockers 7-9 Northern Iowa

Six unearned runs are the downfall for the Shocks in this one. Asea, Paige and Ashley all had two singles. Macklin's homer was the only extra-base hit. Although LiveStats has Katie with the loss, the loss belongs to Jenni as she started the sixth in the circle with the score tied. Perhaps it will be corrected in time.

Rain has reached Des Moines and is approaching Cedar Falls. It appears the chances of getting in the second game are slim.

Game Two

Jenni has the start with Alyssa Buchanan starting for the Panthers. The lineup has definitely been shuffled. Mackenzie, Kelli, Paige, Macklin, McKenzie, Asea, Laurie, Madison, Ashley.

Mackenzie and Kelli open the first with walks, but no one can move them around.

In the Panther first, the first two batters are a hit-by-pitch and a run-scoring double. After a fly out, wild pitch and walk, Katie is on for Jenni. Short leash for sure.

They lead off their second with a home run.

Northern Iowa leads 2-0 after two.

In the Panther third, a walk and two singles load the bases. A single scores one with another runner thrown out by McKenzie from left field on the play.

Panthers 3-0 after three.

A walk, single and walk load the bases for Northern Iowa in the fourth, and a two-out double delivers two more runs.

Now 5-0.

Bailey is on to pitch the fifth. May as well.

Bailey gives up a single, but the batter is thrown out trying to stretch it to a double. She gives up a walk, but the runner is caught stealing.

Northern Iowa leads 5-0 after five complete.

The Shockers load the bases in the sixth with one out on a single by Paige, a walk to Ryleigh pinch-hitting for McKenzie and a walk to Asea. Laurie drives in a run with a ground out, and Madison strikes out to end the inning.

Bailey has a three-up, three-down bottom of the inning.

Northern Iowa leads 5-1 as the game goes to the seventh.

The Shocks get a two-out single from Kelli but cannot score in the seventh.


Shockers 1-5 Northern Iowa

Held to four singles (and five walks), the Shocks had few scoring chances. Jenni took the loss again. Bailey got a couple of innings in. Perhaps that will be useful yet this season.


Now trailing the Panthers by three and one-half games in the standings, there is no chance to get a double-bye in the Valley tournament.
