  • Shocker Softball vs MSU and CU

Lady Shocks split a DH with Missouri State today 4-1 and 3-5. Combined with their 1-0 win over MSU in the middle of last week the Shocks do take the season series with the Lady Bears 2-1.

Ashley Bright went the distance for the win in Game 1. In Game 2, Freshman Brianna Smet only lasted 1.2 innings giving up all 5 of MSU's runs. Ashley Bright went the rest of the way, but the Shocks could not recover from the early deficit. Inconsistent second line pitching continues to be an issue for the Lady Shocks.

The Shocks host preseason MVC favorite Creighton this weekend. If the Shocks are going to contend for the MVC title they probably need to win 2 of 3 against Creighton which will be very difficult as CU has the reigning MVC Pitcher of the Year, Sophomore Tara Oltman.

Shocks now 25-15 overall and 7-5 in the MVC.

    Good luck Lady Shocks.

Katie McGeeney lead off the bottom of the sixth. Shocks move Katie to 3rd with one out, where she scores on a squeeze bunt by Heather Gerritse.

Jamie Hull then delivers a big two-out line-drive single to center to deliver two more runs.

Shockers take a 3-0 lead into the 7th.

      Let's Go Ashley!

CU with back to back slap hits with one out in the 7th.

A third slap attempt was lined to Jamie Hull at 3rd who alertly fired accross the diamond to 1st to complete a game ending double play.

Shocks win 3-0 behind a complete game shut out performance from Ashley Bright which included 11 strikeouts.

Ashley is now within 4 K's of the Shocker single season strikeout record held by Margo Pruis with many more games to go.

The Shocker win breaks a 5-game losing streak to the BlueJays.

As Doc says, this team is hard to figure at times, but a great start to the weekend.

Shocks drop Game 2 to CU by a 3-1 score.

Freshman Briana Smet with a decent outing but the Shocks could do nothing with CU starter Emily Humpal getting only 1 hit over the 1st six innings.

Cynthia Verhulst homered to lead of the 7th and the Shockers did put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. CU brought in their star pitcher, Tara Oltman, who closed out the game with back-to-back strikeouts.

Big rubber game tomorrow. No doubt it will be Ashley Bright vs Tara Oltman again. Shocks really need this series.

Ashley Bright outdueled reigning MVC Pitcher of the Year Tara Oltman for the second day in a row with a 9 inning complete game 3-hit win over MVC preseason favorite Creighton by a 2-1 score. Ashley alos scored the winning run in the 9th.

Ashley struck out 12 BlueJays in establishing a new single-season strikeout record (255) with many games to go.

The Shockers scored in the bottom of the 5th on a 2 out RBI single by Sophomore Kara L'Huiller.

Creighton tied the game in the Top of the 7th with a solo homer to send the game into extra innings.

With 2 outs in the 9th Ashley tripled to right center and Jamie Stanclift was hit by a pitch bringing up Freshman Kiersten Dixon who had not reached base in the series. Kiersten delivered a looping single to right to deliver the game winner from 3rd.

Excellent weekend of softball for the Shocks and an oustanding performance both on Saturday and Sunday by Senior Ashley Bright.
