The Cougars get a one-out single in the seventh but can do no damage.

    Shockers 5-2 Houston

Katie gets the complete-game win, giving up the two unearned runs on six hits and one walk with three strike outs. Macklin had the homer and Madison a double and two RBI. Mackenzie had three singles among the ten hits for the Shockers.

Very solid opening weekend for the Lady Shocks. Perhaps nothing spectacular although Katie's 0.38 ERA in 18.2 innings might say otherwise. But she wasn't dominating. She just got outs when she needed them and never let the opponents string much together. Against Houston I though Kaite was outstanding in working in to the batters. Wished I had a $1 for every foul ball pulled to the left side by Houston's predominantly right-handed hitting lineup.

Big Mack with 3 homers in 4 games. Paige added 2 more. Big Mack and Paige also led the key 2-out, 2-run rally in the bottom of the 5th in today's Houston game.

I thought Freshman Madison Perrigan's debut as a Shocker was pretty good as well.

Good solid, steady, opportunistic softball by the Shocks this weekend.

          Other solid performances:

Mackenzie: 6 for 11, double and four RBI

Kelli: 6 for 12, two doubles and two RBI

Mauriana: 6 for 12, double and an RBI

            Other Saturday Games

            UC-Santa Barbara 12-10 Wright State
            The game that wouldn't die.

            Boston College 12-4 Houston
Fifteen hits for the Eagles, two homers by Cortez, four doubles. Now I am really wishing we had the chance to play BC. Houston had two homers themselves.

            Boston College 11-0(5) Wright State

Not a surprising result. Twelve hits this time for BC with two homers and four doubles scattered among five players. BC may be wishing they had a chance to play the Shocks for the competition we might have given them.

I assume next weekends games with Arizona State and Missouri will provide a somewhat more challenging set of opponents for the Lady Shocks compared to what they faced this weekend.

And only Kelli is a senior among that trio.

I was thinking along those same lines. The advantage of not playing Boston College is that Bailey was able to ease into her college career with only one start. Next weekend the Shocks also play South Dakota twice while in Arizona. Will Bailey get both of those games (they are the early game each day) or will she get a shot against ASU who is RV (T36) in the preseason poll. Missouri is #17 and one would assume that Katie will get that game.

Houston made seven errors in this game. Perhaps the talent levels are a little closer on most days. The teams play again Sunday, so we shall see.

                        Today's games:

UCSB 2 - Boston College 6 Golden Eagles hit 3 more home runs.

Wright State 8 - Houston 5 Wright scored 4 in the 1st and 4 in the 7th and never trailed the Cougars.

Boston College 2 - Houston 7 Top 6. Looks like the Shocks will be the only undefeated team in the tourney, but never played BC.

The Coogs play a clean game in the field and outhit BC by eleven to five.
