The last meeting in February 2014 resulted in a 2-1 win by UCSB. Glad Katie was not extended much in the Wright State game. Just a good warm-up.
It will be interesting to see who starts this one - I suspect Katie. Then tomorrow Bailey would get the start in the other game against the Gauchos, and Katie would get the start versus Houston.

That's what I'm thinking as well. But who knows.

        Game Two - Shockers v UC-Santa Barbara

        The LiveStats are here.

Katie has the start in this one. Same lineup with the exception of Mauriana replacing Cassidy as the DP.

The Shocks score first in the top of the third. Kelli moves to third on her single, a wild pitch and a sac bunt. Then Paige strokes a two-run homer.

Shocks lead 2-0 after three complete.

In the fifth, the Shockers tack on three more runs with a three-run homer by Macklin, preceded by a single by Kelli and Laurie being hit by a pitch. A pitching by UC-SB follows the homer.

The Shocks lead 5-0 as the game goes to the bottom of the fifth.

The Gauchos get a run back in the bottom of the fifth. With a runner already on with two outs, they get a single, walk and single to plate one.

Shocks lead 5-1 after five complete.

The Shocks get the run back in the top of the sixth. Mauriana is safe on an error, advances to third on a bunt single and an error on the play and scores on Kelli's RBI single. Katie gives up two more singles in the sixth but gives up no runs.

Shocks lead 6-1 going to the seventh. Will Bailey get to pitch then? Katie has faced 26 batters and given up eight hits.

Lady Shocks denting some cars today. Could be a fun year for them!

Love to see the guys get off to this kind of start.

                  Nope.

The Shocks had a chance to add another run after a single by Macklin and error (the fourth of the day for the Gauchos), but a pinch-runner was thrown out at the plate on Mauriana's single. Katie has a three-up, three-down seventh.

                  Shockers 6-1 UC-Santa Barbara

Katie gets the complete game win, giving up eight singles and a walk while striking out five. In addition to the homers by Paige and Macklin among the nine hits by the Shocks, Kelli had three singles. She was five-for-five with a double on the day. On a bummer note, three of the four outs by Laurie in the two games were strike outs and there were only four strike outs by Shockers today. She started the year in the same way last year, so if she ends the season similar to last season, we can live with today.

Wright State used the same starter that the Shockers saw. This time she threw a complete game.

Interesting. If the Shocks go the way you anticipated (and I would be surprised if they don't) then will see freshman lefty Bailey Klitzke in the circle tomorrow against UCSB. Looking forward to seeing what she can do in her 1st start as a Shocker.

I would think HCKB would have to be reasonably pleased with what she got from her team today.

You cannot call this a great weekend yet, but I am disappointed the Shocks lost their game against Boston College. I suspect they and the Shocks are the two best at the tournament. On paper, at any rate.

That was unfortunate. Still the Shocks need to validate what they did today by playing well again tomorrow. Never too soon to start playing well on a consistent basis. The Shocks have enough tough teams still remaining on their schedule to provide some very good competition and provide some good measuring sticks.

Great work starting 2-0. Let's try and pick up a few more dubs this weekend.
Brummett throws, STRUCK HIM OUT! THE SHOCKERS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! AN UNBELIEVABLE STORY!

                                Game Three - Shockers v UC-Santa Barbara

                                LiveState are here.

Bailey has the start. Same lineup as yesterday's UCSB game with Mauriana moving up to the fifth spot as the DP, and Ryleigh dropping to the sixth spot.

The Shocks scored in the top of the first on a bunt single by Laurie, sac bunt, ground ball and passed ball. Mauriana followed with a single, but the Shocks could not manufacture any more runs. Bailey overcomes an error and stolen base with two strike outs in the bottom half.

                                Shocks lead 1-0 after one.
