  • 2015-16 Shocker Indoor Track & Field

The Shocker women Multi-Eventers start off the indoor season on Friday, Dec 2nd, with what amounts to an intrasquad competition. Something to do if you have your afternoon free.

WICHITA, Kan. --  Wichita State's track and field multi-athletes open the season Thursday and Friday at the Wichita State Shocker Multi event at the Heskett Center.

At last year's MVC Indoor Championship's the Shocker men took 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th as the Shocks under Coach Rainbolt focus on developing depth in the multi-events to a much greater extent than most college teams do and certainly more than other Valley teams do which usually allows them to jump to a solid early lead in the Valley Championships.

As I said this is essentially an intrasquad competition with 11 of the 17 athletes are Shockers, led by Breanne Borman, lasst year's Valley Pentathlon runner-up and Heptathlon champ, and return of Nikke Larch-Miller, who sat out last year due to injury (achilles I think). Nikki was a 2015 outdoor Heptathlon All-American the before last. Great to see Nikki back in action hope she is healthy and can stay healthy. There are 3 athletes from Friends, 2 from Oklahoma Baptist and 1 unaffiliated to round out the field of 17.

All 5 events will be held on Friday afternoon.

    2015-16 or 2016-17?

Title should reflect 2016-17. However, I don't seem to be able to edit that. Perhaps one of the site administrators can do that.

@_kai_: I tried to send you a PM about this but your mail box is full. Is this something you can correct?

Nikki Larch-Miller won today's mostly intrasquad pentathlon with 3,888 points with fellow Sr Gavyn Yetter a close 2nd at 3,865 points. Breanne Borman was at 3,051 points after 4 events but sat out the final event, the 800m run.

Sr. Breanne has had a knee that give her problems. Whether it was giving her problems today or they just chose not to stress the knee too much I can't say. Breanne holds the Shocker record in the Pentathlon at 4,133 points.

ST. LOUIS  --  Wichita State men's and women's indoor track and field teams were voted first in the coaches pre-season conference poll, it was announced today by the Missouri Valley Conference Office.

Nice article on Nikki Larch-Miller as she hopes to cap her Shocker career with a strong senior season after missing last year due to injury.

              WSU-KU-KSU TRIANGULAR - THURSDAY, JANUARY 12TH

This might be fun if you have the time and interest.

              From the Eagle:

State champions — Wichita State track and field schedules one of its most significant meets early in the season.

It’s significant because WSU coaches place great emphasis on the team aspect of the sport and because of the competition. On Thursday at the Heskett Center, Kansas and Kansas State join the Shockers in a triangular meet that’s in its third season.

The schools compete for a traveling trophy and the host school — K-State in 2015, Kansas in 2016 — won the first two.

“The team thing is the big thing for this meet, more than any other meet outside of the MVC meet,” WSU assistant director of track and field John Wise said. “We’re obviously pulling out all the stops to win it.”

That means top athletes such as sprinter/hurdler Nikki Larch-Miller will compete in as many as three or four events. Track is a sport in which athletes sometimes gradually work their way into top shape, and avoid peaking before national meets. The timing of this meet doesn’t allow for a casual approach that can confuse fans and obscure the meaning of performances.

Field events begin at noon. Running events begin at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to end at 7:32 with the 1,600-meter relay.

“It’s the most fan-friendly meet you can go to,” Wise said. “We’ll get the running events in in about two hours.”
