Austin finished 6th in the 1500m and finished 8th overall with 7,776 points. Nice finish to the day after finishing 16th in the 110m hurdles he finished 3rd in the discus, 3rd in the pole vault, 9th in the javeling and 6th in the 1500m run.

Very nice effort for the former Shocker and former Heights Falcon.

That finish will make Austin eligible for the Thorpe Cup competition (a multi-event dual vs Germany) which Austin has competed in twice previously for Team USA.

BTW, Coach Rainbolt will be the Coach of Team USA in the Thorpe Cup to he held in late July in Fayeteville, Arkansas so it will have Wichita State fingerprints all over it.

Damien Odle finished 9th in the javelin final on Sunday with a throw of 231-3. Very nice showing by Damien who will be back as a senior for the Shocks next season.

Austin couldn't wipe the smile off his faced if his life depended on it after the 1500. He had EVERY reason to be proud of his effort, and he was.

It was heartwarming to watch.

2nd HS track teammate of mine to compete in and acquit themselves quite well in the US Olympic trials. Pretty fun. Congrats to Austin on a fantastic accomplishment and performance.
