  • 2016 MVC Softball Tournament

With the last weekend of Valley play upcoming, we know that the Shockers will get the #1 seed and that Loyola will not make the Tournament. The rest is up in the air.

Missouri State hosts Indiana State this weekend. These two teams are tied for eighth at 8-13, so the loser of the series will be the other team out.

Illinois State is just a game ahead at 9-12 and must travel to play Northern Iowa in their final series. Even if they are swept, they still make the Tournament. They own the tiebreaker over Indiana State (2-0), and they split two games with Missouri State. However, the Redbirds have a win over the Shocks that Missouri State does not have.

All of the above assumes all three games of a series will be played.

The Tournament is hosted by Southern Illinois and starts on Thursday, May 12.

Missouri State swept Indiana State today, so the Bears make the Tournament and the Sycamores do not.

Another shot at the less than cordial relationship with Drake's softball program from the article linked by @flyingMoose

“No sharing,” Williams said. “Sharing is never fun, especially with someone you don’t like.”

All-Conference Awards were announced by the Valley this evening.

Cacy is Conference Player of the Year for the second time, also winning the award in 2014. The release also says she is the Most Valuable Player, and it is not clear if that is a separate award. I suspect not.

Other Shockers who were members of the First Team are Liz, Macklin and Brittany. Second Team members are PaigeL, Jenni and Mackenzie. The All-Defensive Team is a collection of positions. One of the three catchers receiving that award is Mackenzie.

                The Shocker release is here.

The start time for the first game of the tournament, Missouri State v Bradley, has been moved to 230pm due to overnight weather and weather moving into the area this morning. Plans are still to play all four first-day games today.

Congratulations to Cacy and her teammates on their post-season honors. Now let's hope our post-season extends beyond 2 games.

The first game of the tournament was moved back to a 5pm start time. Only the first two games of the four scheduled for today will be played with the other two games moved to Friday. The first of four games on Friday will start at 11am.

                      Thursday Games

                      Missouri State 6-3 Bradley

The Bears broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fifth. Struemph was the complete game winner for Missouri State, and Duewel had a solo home run.

                      Illinois State 2-0 Evansville

Regan Romshek used a very effective change-up in limiting the Purple Aces to only two hits. She added a home run in the sixth after the Redbirds had taken the lead with a run in the fourth.

By postponing the final two scheduled Thursday games, Drake and you all have a huge advantage now. Going to be a lot tougher on the two other teams that make the semifinal. Not complaining necessarily, but it is unfortunate that the weather played havoc yesterday.

The same thought had crossed my mind.

                              Friday Games

                              Missouri State 3-4 Southern Illinois

The Salukis took an early 4-0 lead off Kaitlin Beason and survived a three-spot by the Bears in the fourth. Brianna Jones gave up six hits in earning her 23rd win of the season. Southern Illinois plays the Shockers later today.
