  • Shocker Softball vs SIU

Shockers with a big sweep of a Doubleheader Saturday vs SIU by scores of 7-0 and 3-0 at Wilkins Stadium on Saturday. SIU was picked to finish 3rd in the MVC this year.

Ashley Bright tossed a 3-hit, complete game shut-out in game one while the Shocks banged out 12 hits in the 7-0 win.

In game two, freshman Brianna Smet went the first 4.2 innings giving up 3 hits and Bright closed out the final 2.1 allowing one hit to combine on a 4-hit shutout. Shocks only outhit SIU 5 to 4 but the put 4 of their hits together to score all 3 of their runs in the 3rd inning.

In game 3 today, Jamie Hull homered in the bottom of the 5th for the games only run so far.

Ashley Bright working on a 2-hit shutout through six. Shocks batting in the bottom of the sixth.

This would be a really big sweep after dropping the series 1-2 to Bradley at home last weekend.

SIU with a one-out double in the top of the 7th to put the tying run in scoring position.

Ashley Bright gets a fly to right and a pop-up to short to finish of her second complete game, 3 hit shout out of the series as the Shocks win a tight 1-0 game for the sweep of the Salukis in three consecutive shutouts.

    Shocks really needed that.

What a great series for the Shox! Sweeping softball 'perennial' power SIU.

Sweeps of SIU in MVC softball play are quite rare -- this was the first time SIU has been swept in a Missouri Valley Conference series since the league switched to three-game series in 2001.
