For the (fill in the blank) curious, the NCAA has released their first RPI rankings of the season.

83 Illinois State

This is the pre-season Top Five/Bottom Five with the exception of Southern Illinois and Missouri State swapping halves.


The Shockers' opponent tonight, Oklahoma State, has an RPI ranking of 48.

RPI's are better than women's basketball although there are about 50 fewer D-1 softball teams than there are D-1 WBB teams.

Average RPI of 135.5 for softball vs 207.9 for WBB.

Not sure what if anything that means. In either case both sports are one-bid conferences making the Conference Tournament the key to dancing.
