The Shockers begin the outdoor season this week in Texas. The multi's will compete Tuesday/Wednesday at Rice while the rest of the team will compete Friday/Saturday at UT-San Antonio. These are very early in the season so don't expect to see a ton of great results but the Shockers should be strong outdoor so who knows. Sounds like the Lady Shock heptathletes had a good start to the 2016 outdoor season at the Rice Shirley Crowe Multi-Event Meet.
HOUSTON -- Wichita State's women Heptathletes all set personal records for points Tuesday and Wednesday at the Rice Shirley Crowe Multis at Ley Stadium.
If I read that report correctly all 6 Shockers set new PR's in the heptathlon with Gavyn Yetter leading the way with her winning score of 5,447 points. That score would have been good for 2nd place in last year's Valley Championship behind Nikki Larch-Miller. Nikki sat out this year's indoor season with an Achilles injury. Not sure what her situation is. Breanne Borman the Shocker record holder in the indoor pentathlon sat out this meet after competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships last week.
The Shocks took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and 10th at Rice. Their top 5 scores would have all placed at last year's Valley Championship.

Breanne Borman, Gavyn Yetter and Marteisha Caines partipated in the heptathlon at the Texas Relays yesterday and today.
Marteisha finished 17th with 5,110 points, however, neither Breanne nor Gavyn, who were I think around 12th and 16 heading into the 800m race were able to complete the race. Breanne did not start the race. Gavyn started but was unable to finish. Hopefully, if injuries are involved they are not serious. Both Breanne and Gavyn are key contributors on this year's Shocker team.

From @GoShockers: TFXC ...
"Borman and Yetter did not run the 800m because it wouldn't have improved the overall score they were needing. They'll go again at KTWoodman!"

At the Stanford Invitational freshman Rebekah Topham ran a personal record 4:25.02 in the 1,500 meters to palce third in her section and enter the Shocker Top 10 All-Time list at No. 4.
Also at Stanford, Sidney Hirsch ran the 3,000 meter Steeplechase in 10:16.71 to finish ninth in her section and set a personal record and also improve her WSU Top 10 time from No. 4 to No. 2 all-time.

At the KT Woodman Breanne Borman was leading after 5 events with a score of 3,952 points but is going to drop out because apparently her knee is bothering her and she is not feeling well. I didn't think she looked 100%. I suspect she and her coaches decided she wasn't going to hit her 5,500 target this week and so they decided not to push it. Hopefully, nothing serious is going on with Breanne.
Gavyn Yetter is now the leader by 52 points after 5 events with a total score 3,868.
Gavyn finished off her hepathlon effort t with a 2nd place finish in the javelin and a win in the 800m as she won the event with total score of 5,329 points. A very solid effort but a little short of her PR of 5,447 set earlier this year and short of the 5,500 she and Breanne Borman are targeting which they hope would qualify them for one of the 24 slots in the NCAA Outdoor Champinships.
Nice work from Gavyn and her teammates this weekend. Gavyn just looks like what you would think a good mult-event athlete would like although she could pass for a model as well. Hopefully, Gavyn and Breanne can reach their goal yet this season.Last edited by 1972Shocker; April 14, 2016, 03:01 PM.

Shocker middle-distance runner Rebecca Topham won the 3,000m steeplechase at the K.T. Woodman meet on Friday in a time of 10:41.45. This was the 7th best time all-time at WSU. What makes this impressive are 2 things. Rebecca is a freshman and this was the 1st time she has run a steeplechase outside of practice. Maybe 3 things -- the windy conditions were not exactly ideal.
Not sure how much this young lady is going to improve in her time at WSU but the potential is there and it will be fun to follow her career.
Shocker Jr. Sydney Hirsch capped Friday's schedule winning the 10k in 35:31.65 to move into 6th place all-time at WSU.
Shocker So. Carlea Holt out of Cheney had a very solid 150 foot throw in the javelin just short of her PR is 5th best in Shocker history.
