  • Shocker SB v Northern Colorado

The Shockers play three games this weekend against the Bears of Northern Colorado. The first game of a DH on Saturday starts at noon. The single game on Sunday starts at 11am.

Northern Colorado were picked sixth of eight teams in the Big Sky Conference. Their current record is 3-13. These Bears were shutout twice by Missouri State in their opening tournament of the season and were run-ruled by Colorado State recently. The Shocks beat CSU twice in the opening weekend of the season. On paper, this should be a good weekend for the Shocks.

The Bears' offense consists of three players - no one else has an OPS better than .600. Erica Dick has an OPS of .978, Madi Schmidt has an OPS of .905 and Lauren Page has an OPS of .862 with three homers.

Almost half of the innings and all of the wins belong to Jayme Reddacliff. She has an ERA of 3.85 and a WHIP of 1.77. Kelli Kleis has an ERA of 4.13 but averages more than a walk per inning. The stats of three other pitchers are best left unseen.

Katie and Jenni continue to be the mainstays of the Shocker staff. Katie has an ERA of 4.37 and a WHIP of 1.47. Jenni's numbers are 3.19 and 1.55.

PaigeL has an OPS of 1.205 to lead the offense of the Shocks. Macklin has become the DP, and she has an OPS of .917. The numbers for Brittany and Cacy have begun to improve from their slow starts, especially Cacy. As a junior, Ashley is having the best offensive season of her career. Unfortunately, others who started the season quite well have cooled off.

After this weekend, the Shockers begin their Valley season with a mid-week game tucked in before that weekend.

Appreciate your game and series notifications and summary notes. Anything less than a sweep this weekend would be disappointing against this opponent.

          Game One

Katie has this start with the #2 of the Bears getting their start. Bethany Canada is the DP with no other changes in the typical lineup of late for the Shockers.

The Shocks score their first five batters in the first inning. Singles by MackenzieW and Kelli and a walk to Brittany load the bases. PaigeL drives in two runs with a single, and Cacy follows with a three-run blast.

Northern Colorado score in the third on a single, sac bunt and single. The Shocks get two of their own in the bottom half. After Liz walks and advances on a wild pitch, Cassidy plates her with a single and advances to second on the throw home. Cassidy then scores on an error.

The Shockers get three more in the fourth, MackenzieW scoring on an outfield error after singling earlier and Liz driving in two with a double.

When the Bears do not score in the fifth, the game ends by the runs-ahead rule.

          Northern Colorado 1-10(5) Shockers

Katie gets the win (3-4), giving up the run on five hits and two walks. She struck out four. The Shocker offense generated ten hits, two each by MackenzieW and Liz. Cacy had three RBI with her homer. PaigeL and Liz each had two RBI.

            Game Two

Jenni gets this start with the Bears starting Reddacliff, their #1. Macklin is back as the DP for the Shocks.

In the second inning, Liz walks and advances on a single by Macklin. After reaching third on a force out of Macklin, Liz scores on an infield single by Ashley.

In the fourth, the Bears get runners at the corners with one out on two singles. The runner on third is the back-end of an inning-ending double play as she attempts to score on a fly out to PaigeL in right.

In the fifth after one out, the Bears get two more singles and Kelsey relieves Jenni. She induces a ground ball third-to-first double play started by MackenzieW.

In the bottom of the inning, the Shocker offense comes to life. With one out, Kelli singles and steals second. Brittany then repeats the feat to put runners at third and second. PaigeL drives them home with a single. Later in the half-inning, Liz has an RBI-single and Macklin has an RBI-double, sandwiched around a run-scoring wild pitch. The Shockers lead 6-0 after five complete.

The Shocks close out the game in the sixth with two runs on four walks with another run-scoring wild pitch in the midst of them and a single by Macklin that scores the game-ending run.

            Northern Colorado 0-8(6) Shockers

Jenni gave up five hits in her 4.1 innings and gets the win, running her record to 6-2. Kelsey walked one and struck out one in 1.2 innings. Macklin had three hits including a double and drove in two runs. PaigeL also had two RBI.
