  • Shocker SB at Oklahoma State

On Wednesday, the Shockers travel to Stillwater for a single game against the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State at 630pm. The return engagement in Wichita is two weeks later. Last year, the Shocks won the first game of this set with the second game being cancelled.

Oklahoma State have a record of 7-11. They play a tougher than average schedule and have a 1-5 record against teams currently ranked. This past weekend, they split a DH with Dartmouth, a common opponent and earlier victim of the Shockers.

The highest OPS on the team belong to Madi Sue Montgomery (1.023 with four home runs), Kristin Reasnor (.982 with three home runs) and Tiffany Mikkelson (.980 with three home runs). Sophomore Jessi Hafner, a Carroll alumna, is four-for-nine this season, all in a pinch-hitting role.

Most of the innings belong to Kacy Freeze (ERA of 5.07 and WHIP of 1.61) and Brandi Needham (ERA of 4.44 and WHIP of 1.56).

The Shocker offense is led by PaigeL with an OPS of 1.199. In limited duty, Macklin now has an OPS of .998. No one else is much above .800.

Jenni's numbers now lead the pitching staff along with her W-L record at 5-1. She has an ERA of 2.75 with a WHIP of 1.49. Katie has an ERA of 4.73 and a WHIP of 1.54

Jenni has the start with the normal recent lineup, Macklin being the DP.

After a three-ground-out first inning, Jenni ran into big trouble in the second. An error and two singles loaded the bases. After a line out to center, the Cowgirls cleared the bases with a grand slam. A strike out was followed by a walk and single, and Katie came on in relief to get the last out. Cowgirls lead 4-0 after two innings.

The Shocks got a run back in the third on a walk to PaigeL, a ground out and a single by Cacy.

In the fifth, the Shockers tacked on another run. A single by Kelli and walks to PaigeL and Cacy loaded the bases. The run scored on a fielder's choice ground out by MackenzieW. In the bottom half, Oklahoma State got the first two runners on, but the inning ended with an unassisted DP by Cacy at first. OSU leads 4-2 after five complete.

The Cowgirls brought on another pitcher to start the sixth. The Shocks promptly scored a run off her with a single by Ashley and a double by Brittany. In the bottom of the sixth, Jessi Haffner, the Carroll alumna, struck out to end the inning.

In the Shocker seventh, Cacy singled with one out and advanced to second on a ground out. A walk to Macklin got a second runner on, but Cassidy ended the game by striking out.

    Shockers 3-4 Oklahoma State

The Shockers could not overcome the grand slam by the Cowgirls. After Jenni's rough start, Katie pitched 4.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and two walks. She struck out three.

Cacy and Ashley each had two hits among the eight by the Shocks. Brittany's double was the only extra base hit.

The Shockers play three games against Northern Colorado this weekend - two on Saturday starting at noon and a single game on Sunday starting at 11am.

Who is going to have the touch any particular day? Enough to drive Ryne and CoachB crazy.

You must be a mind reader. I was just thinking about that this morning and thinking to myself now if she can just develop some consistency and I suppose that applies to the entire staff.

Hopefully, their will be more consistent performances by the time conference play starts.
