Katie labors in the bottom of the 4th giving up a walk and going deep in the counts with every batter before getting out of it with no damage.

Tied at 2 going to the 5th, on watch ESPN if you're interested.

Tied up 2-2 at the end of 6. The Shocks put the go ahead run on 3rd with 1 out in the 7th on a walk and a throwing error on the Aggie SS but could not push the run across.

Aggies now batting in the bottom of the 7th.

Darn it....Shocks managed to get runners on the corners with 1 out but Ashley Johnson couldn't get the squeeze down, she ended up flying out and A&M wiggled off the hook in the top of the 7th.

Last of the 7th coming up....Will TA&M get the win or will the Shocks force extra innings?

Tough loss. On the bright side the Shocks got pretty solid work in the circle from Jenni and Katie to open the season against good competition.

I intended to mention earlier that Jo Evans, head coach of Texas A&M, was inducted into the NFCA Hall of Fame this past December.

                  Game Three

Katie got the start, a bit of a surprise considering the tough game she had last night. I expected to see Kelsey, but the article in the paper indicated she is having a tough spring in the preseason practices. Freshman Cassidy Kelsheimer got the start at catcher with Mackenzie moving to third.

The Rams scored two in the top of the first and two singles, a sac bunt and another single. The Shockers countered with three in the bottom half on a double by Mackenzie and RBI single by Kelli. After a walk and a passed ball, Cacy drove in two more with a single.

Colorado State took the lead in the top of the fourth and a single, walk, RBI single and sac fly.

Jenni came on in relief in the top of the fifth. The Rams promptly tacked out two more runs with a single, sac bunt, throwing error and two-run single, both runs being unearned. The Shocker rallied with four runs in the bottom half to take a 7-6 lead. Mackenzie walked and Kelli singled to start the inning. Brittany struck an RBI single, and PaigeL followed with a two-RBI single. Brittany scored on a single by Liz.

Colorado State tied the game at 7s with a single, stolen base, ground out and single in the sixth.

They then took the lead in the top of the seventh with a hit batter, sac bunt and double. The Shocks came from behind yet again with a single by Brittany, walk to PaigeL and RBI double by Cacy. PaigeL was thrown out at the plate on a fly ball by pinch-hitting Macklin to end the inning.

With the ITB in force in extra innings, Kaylee Heucker was placed on second to begin the bottom of the eighth. After a sac bunt by Cassidy, Laurie Anne Derrico delivered the winning run with a single, her first hit as a Shocker.

                  Shockers 9-8(8) Colorado State

Although Jenni got the win, four runs on six hits and two walks over four innings was not the stellar performance of yesterday against the Rams. Kelli, Brittany and Cacy all had two hits among the ten hits of the Shocks with Cacy getting three RBI and PaigeL, two.

                    Game Four

Ashlynne Neil gets the start against the Bruins. Freshman Cassidy Kelsheimer gets the start at catcher again with Mackenzie at third.

After Mackenzie and Kelli opened the top of the first with singles, Brittany lined into a double play, catching Mackenzie off second. However, PaigeL delivered Kelly from first with a double. UCLA came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first: single, sac bunt, triple, single.

The Shocks tied the game in the second on a Cassidy walk, single by Ashley and RBI single by Mackenzie.

The Bruins took a 5-2 lead in the third on a three-run homer. The Shockers clawed their way back into the game with three of their own in the fourth. Laurie Anne Derrico started off with a homer. Singles by Cassidy and Ashley set the stage for a two-run double by Mackenzie. Kelsey Sterneker took over in the circle for Ashlynne in the bottom of the fourth.

UCLA regained the lead in the fifth. After two were out, a double, infield single and double plated one run. At this point, Katie came on relief and got the last out of the inning. UCLA holds a 6-5 lead after five complete innings.

The Shocks had two on and two out in the sixth, but a fly out ended the inning. In the seventh, a walk and fielder's choice put runners on with no outs. A popped up sac bunt got the first out, and the runners advanced on a ground out. Mackenzie, already 3-for-4 on the day, grounded out to end the game.

                    UCLA 6-5 Shockers

Kelsey took the loss in relief. Neither she nor Ashlynne were particularly effective. The Shockers had eleven hits for the game. Mackenzie had three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Cassidy and Ashley each had two hits, Cassidy having a double.

The Shockers complete the Aggie Classic with a game against Texas A&M Sunday at 1215pm.

                            Game Five

Jenni started this game. The Shocks scored in the first on a single by Mackenzie and a single by PaigeL after two ground outs.

The Aggies scored one of their own in the first on a solo home run by Vidales. After a two-run double in the Aggie second, Katie relieved Jenni. A&M continued to build their lead from there: another solo homer by Vidales in the third, an inside-the-park homer by their leadoff in the fourth, another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to close out a run-rule game. The Shocks had runners on in every inning, but could never produce another run.

                            Texas A&M 9-1(6) Shockers

PaigeL and Ashley both had two singles. Jenni gave up four hits in 1.1 innings in taking the loss. Katie gave up six hits and three walks in her 4.1 innings.

                              Records for the Aggie Classic

                              4-1 UCLA
                              4-1 Texas A&M
                              2-3 Shockers
                              0-5 Colorado State

The weekend went about as suspected - we won the games we should (with a nice comeback in one of them) and lost the games we should. We were very competitive in two of those losses with all three coming to ranked teams. The pitching was the show on Friday, and the hitting was the show on Saturday.

Next weekend, the Shockers head to Las Vegas for the Demarini Desert Classic hosted by UNLV.
