The whole difference in situations is that we, at the time, had a clueless, in over his head athletic director in Sexton, who didn't have the guts to do the right thing. Obviously the AD at Bowling Green had the guts to do the right thing.

Sorry for the ranting and the passion, but I am strong in my beliefs about HCJA. If these girls can have success despite her, that would be fantastic. What will be more fantastic is the day she is gone from Wichita State.

Question: Short of "for cause" (which she could be fired), is there any other way her contract can be shortened/changed or does her contract simply roll over year after year, $ increase after $ increase unless we buy it out?

My understanding is that it is a 5-year contract that automatically rolls over every year so that she has a perpetual 5-year contract. Much the same as 3G's does except that his is a continuous 7-year contract and I think to buy him out would require paying him for the remaining 7-years (that ain't going to happen). At least in Jody's case she can be bought out for $500,000 which amounts to about 2 years of her current base salary. As far as I know she gets a minimum raise of $20,000 per year PLUS 4% of her base salary. I know of no provisions in her contract to void those payments short of termination for cause.

She also has a $400,000 annuity (not sure what the present value of that is) due if she stays through the 2018-19 season (3 more seasons) and the contract calls for another annuity to be negotiated prior to the start of next season. It will be interesting to see how that goes.

Her base pay last year was $221,772 but her total pay with incentives was $257,642 according to KansasOpenGov.com

Assuming minimum annual raises in her base pay of $20,000 plus 4% her base pay (excluding incentives) would be as follows:
        2015-16: $250,643
        2016-17: $280,669
        2017-18: $311,896
        2018-19: $344,371

I have admit to being somewhat green with jealousy. Or is that jealous of the green.

This is one reason why I say it will take a solid P-5 offer to pull her away from WSU. Not sure there are very many mid-majors that would be able to match her current pay package. It would be interesting to see what other Valley WBB coaches are pulling down. I suspect Jody is at the top of the pack.

Well, I guess I already knew the answers. So, other than cause, only on potentially on going poor performance will make WSU pull the trigger on what could be a runaway train. I wonder if they save the annuity if she's fired before the end of 2019?

Not sure. My guess based on the face of the plain language reported in the Eagle is that yes they would save the PV of the annuity. But that is anything but conclusive.

It's possible an argument to pull the trigger based on an economic/return on investment evaluation could cause WSU to pull the trigger and go a different direction but I wouldn't bet on that happening.

I think Jody is here until a better opportunity to her liking presents itself.

Interesting series of games by Madison Weekly of UNI. Against SIU she scored 28 of their 60 points. The following game the Shockers held her to 5 points albeit in a loss. The next game Weekly had 28 of UNI's 65 points in a win over MSU. The fact the Shockers are generally more athletic then may everyone in the Valley except SIU and that they do play hard on the defensive in is one of the main reasons I think they can win around 6-7 of their remaining 14 games. If they just shoot the ball moderately well for an entire game they should be in most games.

I have heard it said that "the only good thing which came out of that ugly scenario (last spring's investigation) is that now Jody no longer has the $500,000 buyout clause in her contract." I have never found a public report to confirm that, and have no idea how to confirm or refute it. I would be very interested if others have heard this "news?"

Given the climate of some other women's programs at the time, I certainly thought WSU had cause. Maybe Jody gave that up rather than be fired for cause. Total guess on my part as I know nothing.

I have no information about that but based on what was reported at the time I doubt very much that would be the case. What I think happened is that Jody lawyered up and her attorneys were able to create enough FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) to make Bardo fearful that if they terminated Adams for cause that they would have to deal with a very public court case. One of the things that would have come out of that kind of public airing is how poorly the Athletic Department administration (primarily Sexton and Endicott) handled their oversight responsibilities and were, in effect, enablers of Coach Adams' mistreatment of players. Considering that Bardo had already announced Sexton's promotion to a new dual role to include VP of Student Affairs, which was already being criticized by many including Dr. Jim Rhatigan, the highly respected former VP of Student Affairs, he wasn't too keen on causing such a ruckus over a low profile sport like WBB. I do think however that Jody was, in no uncertain terms, put on notice that she needed to clean up her act going forward and that she would be monitored closely. So I am not really expecting a repeat of those previous problems. Eric Sexton has been relieved of his AD responsibilities but still remains as VP of Student Affairs. My guess is her buy-out remains in place and it will be left for nature to take its course regarding Coach Adams future.

Do u think Pat Summit,Geno Aueriema, or Kim Mulkey and playing pattie cake with there players and catering to their emotions and needs??? Smh no,they taught, motivated, and got results. We have talent here, they and getting healthy and beginning to gel together. I for one cant wait for the turn around, these are great ladies to be around and the want to get better. I know Coach Adams and staff are doing there best to make this happen. Also....who would replace her if she were to leave? Thats a whole nother debate.
I don't know you,and you may have a personal reason to be more supportive, but there is a HUGE difference between being a tough coach to play for and an abusive coach to play for. Bobby Knight is the ONLY successful abusive coach I can think of, and he would not survive in today's scrutiny. This situation is a mess. The issue is not on the players...it is on a staff(ANY staff for that matter) that ever allows a cesspool to form.
